Palm Pre To Support Push Email on Gmail, other IMAP IDLE accounts?

Our friends at Precentral, via an anonymous tipster, say that the Palm Pre will support IMAP IDLE on Gmail. Basically, this would mean the Palm Pre would support push email support for Gmail and other email services that support IMAP IDLE. This would be a major blow to RIM and Apple. Apple's push email is limited to their Mobile Me service. The tipster, who is reportedly using an emulator, said the following:

It actually comes in faster than my blackberry.

IMAP IDLE was used in Chatteremail, a long-time favorite of Palm Treo owners. A few years back, the developer of Chatteremail joined Palm, so we suspect he's had a hand in the development of IMAP IDLE support in webOS.

Awesome! I just enabled IMAP IDLE on my personal IMAP server. Now the only thing missing is the Pre!

Can someone explain what "push" and "IMAP IDLE" mean?

I cannot wait for the Pre to come out but come on...you can say that it is a major blow to Apple since they do not have the push yet. However, when their 3.0 comes out then your article is pretty much moot?
