Sprint Has Sold 100,000 Palm Pre Phones

According to J.P. Morgan analyst Paul Coster, Sprint has sold 100,000 Palm Pre phones since the launch on June 6th. Coster believes 50,000 phones were sold during the first two days and the company may have sold an additional 50,000 through other channels in the days that followed.

“Channel checks conducted Thursday, the 11th, suggest shipments to Sprint stores have averaged about 10-15 units every 2 days, implying about 36K-55K units will have shipped by Saturday (1,200 stores, three shipments of 10-15 units),” Coster said in a research note issued this morning.

Radio Shack has received replenishment shipments, but surprisingly Best Buy has not. Their channel checks included 3 Radio Shack stores and 3 Best Buy stores. My check at Best Buy confirmed more of the same, with the Levittown, NY location receiving just 3 units on June 6th. Employees had no idea when new units would arrive.

With the iPhone 3G S expected to be released next Friday, it's becoming increasingly important for Palm to have available phones to meet demand? If customers are faced with a buying decision, the lack of sufficient stock could tip the scales in favor of the iPhone 3G S.

Go to your local sprint corporate store and get on their waiting list.

Also, rumor has it the Pre will be sold through sprint.com starting next week.

The article at http://digitaldaily.allthingsd...ld-so-far/ reports Coster’s suggestion (quote): Try Radio Shack, which “seems to have been neglected by eager early adopters.”

the Sprint Store sold out of Palm Pres, but the Sales person owned one that he could show me. Tested it out and loved it! Graphics are crisp, modern, and stylish. The finger swipes and gestures are smooth! The multitasking operating system is sweet! The YouTube videos were vibrant, clean, and smooth! The built-in turn-by-turn talking GPS navigator is what I wanted it for. So I ordered one...I should get it by next week! Awesome phone...iPhone killer for sure, especially when all mobile developers expand their revenue to build apps for the Palm Pre!

Best Buys, Radio Shacks and Sprint stores near me have all been out. I am on a waiting list, but as this article says, with the new iphone coming next week, being on no contract with a wife (also without contract) that wants an iphone, it's going to be a decision. I hope they give me a call before the end of next week so I don't have to think about it!

I was put on the waitiing list Monday morning, I called today to inquire about my status and was told I wasn't on the waitlist! They told me I would need to be put at the bottom of the waitlist, I'm done with Sprint...awful customer service....no wonder they are bleeding customers.

yes, sprints store service is terrible. I was told the store had them but I could not buy it as they were offering it to people on the list, here I am, in the store with the $400 to spend and they turn me down over a customer on a list who may or may not come in. I was already put on a list, however, the employee just put my info on the back of a random piece of paper, whether that was actually transcribed to a list I don't know. terrible stock pile and job on sprint and palms part. I hope the iphone comes out and there are plenty of them, probably going to get that instead...

Wow - I'm really surprised to hear all these negative stories. I actually JUST got finished writing my own story praising Sprint for how they handled my issues with my Pre.

Just like Apple, I doubt that 100,000 people have Pre's in their hands. The number is probably lower. Most electronics have a 3-5% failure rate (except for XBoxes which appear to fail a lot higher). Couple that with people who may have just not wanted the phone there's a good chance 10% or more were lost in the shuffle.

All in all, it's a great move for Palm and anyone who has invested in them (they're up over 1,000% since December).

I'm with Chance Stevens... my experience with Sprint was great on launch day. I waited at a Best Buy only to walk in, first in line, and find out they were already sold out (not, they didn't have any phones). So I called Sprint and they called Sprint stores for me to find me a location in my area with enough Pre on-hand that I could purchase that day. Shortly after getting my Pre, Sprint called me back to see if I actually got the Pre. If not they were going to send me to another store that had plenty in stock. Sprint was fantastic in helping me get my Pre on launch day. Gotta love their customer care!!! Big change from just last year.

MJC, although not being put on the waiting list sucks all it takes is one measly employee at Sprint to overlook writing your name down. I wouldn't
write off Sprint simply because of that. Honest mistake.

I know one Best Buy location that has received a second shipment of phones. I purchased one of the 8 Pre's from a Best Buy in Charlotte, NC and when I bought the last one, they put me on the waiting list for when the next shipments came in. (I wanted to buy 2 that day - one for me, one for my wife - but they wouldn't let me.) This past Tuesday, the received a few more phones and called me to let me know they came in. That afternoon I got the 2nd Pre for my wife.

From the looks of it I got lucky because on launch day I got 3 Pre. The whole process took 45 min with 15 min demo and an invite for one of the 3 (Sun, Tue, Thu) full hour question and answer sessions. I was told that all the Sprint Stores in the area received 60-70 Pre. So far at the store I went to has received 5 returns. This is in DFW I don't know about the rest of the country.
