Some of the reviews I was reading said that the touchstone required a special back piece with the inducting coil and that this could lead to the back of the phone getting very hot. Any experience with that?

@PJ Just finished unboxing the Pre, so haven't spent any time with the Touchstone yet.

Well i got my pre last night. Wow I felt like a kid with a new toy. I can officially say my better half is glad she doesn't have to hear me talk about it, read the pre pre-reviews to her or show any more videos about the phone. So on to my initial review. 1st the pre- preview party, that was a treat in itself. Meeting reps from palm, hanging out with Demarcus Ware (go cowboys), getting a full hands on tutorial with the reps from palm was helpful, but I will be honest, after reading, and watching this phone come to fruition for 5 months, the little kid in me came out and honestly I just wanted to play on my own. After the preview party (and dinner) it was off to the house to play with my equivalent of the red rider bb gun.
Unpacking the accessories was a treat, very well packaged. I came home with the phone, the car charger, and the touchstone. charged the phone a bit and like all big kids, started to play. 1st the applications, the phone is extremely easy to navigate, once you learn a few basic gestures it is a lot of fun to see what it can do. Yes like some of the "professional reviewers" I did experience some lag time between apps. but taking into consideration there is no other phone on the market that will allow you to have multiple applications running simultaneously, be rest assured, waiting a couple seconds is far faster than closing one app to open another. I uploaded the where app, and wow that is incredibly useful. For any one who is familiar with the new sirius service available with the new Ford vehicle navigation, its very similar. Even my better half loved the fact that at the touch of a button we can get gas prices for all the gas stations near by, know where the restaurants are, and my girlfriends fav...... where there is a starbucks.. Pandora radio worked smoothly, Fandango was another app that my better half loved since we tend to do the spur of the moment "lets go to the movies" and never really think about what we want to see. The ability to pull trailers while on the go will be a fun app for the movie buffs out there.. (now if only you could get a mobile printer to print tickets on the go)
Syncing the phone to my laptop, well at first I thought I was missing something in the packaging ( a cd-rom ) to sync up the phone. I was pleased to find out I was wrong. No more of using 3rd party software to hook the phone up to the computer, gone are the days of needing the software just to be able to charge my phone via usb cables. WOOHOO! I plugged the phone in vie the usb port and low and behold my laptop read it as a i-pod. I was easily able to transfer documents, music, pictures, etc. back and forth between the two. I almost felt like the kids off the pc commercials " I'm 35 and I can sync my Pre...." as opposed to "I'm 5 and I did this on my pc". I had a lot of fun dropping some of the music I have into my ringtone folder. Speaking of which, I was pleased to find the Pre did not have 80 pieced together useless ringtones taking up space. That has always been a pet peeve of a new phone, having to delete the bland ringtones.
On to the touchstone.... The touchstone came with the special backpiece and the "stone" itself. One bit of frustration with the touchstone, NO CABLE! If I am spending 60 plus dollars for the touchstone, it ought to have its own power cable, not share the one that came with the phone. That did irk me a bit, even if it wasnt the wall adapter, at least toss in the 3 dollar usb cable for my laptop. That 1 little thing I thought was cheap and petty on the behalf of palm and sprint. Otherwise it isn't bad at all, do I feel every Pre owner needs to get the touchstone? Well it's cool, but in hindsight, I would have been fine without it.
So there are some questions about the touchstone:
1. Does it take longer to charge on the touchstone than via the cable? Well I have yet to find out but I was told by the Palm reps the charge time is the same.
2. Does the phone heat up from the touchstone? From what I've experienced, yes it does get a little warm, nothing dangerous, but it will come in handy on some of those frigid winter mornings.... lol

Ok, well unfortunately I have to move on to the job that pays my bills. I hope you enjoyed my early morning review regarding my 1st night with Pre (almost feels like I lost my virginity again..lol). More to come later. And for those of you waiting in line to get yours right now, I hope the read was enjoyable....

Let's see.

1. No Voice Dialing
2. Can't forward text
3. Can't Copy message to foward.
4. No Spell Check.
5. Even with phone locked gives out to much info.
6. Can't create groups to send text messages too.
7. Can't select more than one contact at a time to add to text message
8. Adding too many reduces screen so you can see who your adding.
9. Tried using some of the help text and did not work yellow triangle pops up.

I have had every palm and I can't believe this is lacking what made palm a hit.

Flip side yes it's a nice phone yes the os is really good. Yet what good does it do on the biz side if you cant do what I posted above. just my 2 cents
I could go on but others will chime in. These were the same issue that people that had the I-phone complained about and now palm is no better.

After a few days of ownership, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the interface. the touch screen is responsive, and I love the gestures. Now my wishlist:

1. SMS Messaging that allowed you to forward, reply all, and make distribution lists that you can use again and again.

2. A web browser that allows for bookmarking and multiple open browsers.

3. A phonebook that has filters so that you can group people. i.e. "family", "poker buddies", and send SMS and MMS messages to all of them simultaneously.
