Rumor: According to the WSJ, a person familiar with the situation, says that Verizon Wireless will start carrying the Palm Pre in January of 2010. Verizon's CEO Lowell McAdam was recently quoted as saying Verizon would carry the Palm Pre within 6 months. This prompted Sprint's Dan Hesse to retort suggesting that Verizon "check their facts". January 2010 would be 7 months.

Our friends at Precentral, via an anonymous tipster, say that the Palm Pre will support IMAP IDLE on Gmail. Basically, this would mean the Palm Pre would support push email support for Gmail and other email services that support IMAP IDLE. This would be a major blow to RIM and Apple. Apple's push email is limited to their Mobile Me service. The tipster, who is reportedly using an emulator, said the following:
It actually comes in faster than my blackberry.

News continues to trickle out regarding the Palm Pre and now the upcoming Palm Eos that was rumored a few weeks ago. Engadget has come across a document that details a second half release for the Palm Eos (codenamed Castle). Specifications says the Palm Eos runs Palm System Software and features a "New Palm OS experience". By all accounts, the Palm Eos appears to be the next webOS device.

Rumor: According to a tipster at BGR, Bell is making a push to release the Palm Pre in early August. Announced back on May 6th by Palm and Bell, the two companies confirmed a second half of 2009 release. Sprint customers in the US have reached month 5 of a potential 6 month wait, so many thought it might be more of the same with the Canadian release on Bell. The source claims the date is dependant upon Palm's ability to deliver the phones. Hope springs enternal for our friends up north, who might see the Pre sooner than expected.

Rumor: What's the next best thing to an actual release date for the Palm Pre? A date when we can all expect a release date. BGR reports that Palm and Sprint are set to make a big announcement in the Wall Street Journal on May 19th. Going out on a limb, that would most likely be pricing and availability of the Palm Pre. It would also make for a good time to start that big advertising campaign that we all know is coming.

There is an unconfirmed report that Best Buy will reportedly receive a shipment of just 4,500 Palm Pre phones on June 6th for a June 7th "trial launch". Units would be available at every Best Buy Mobile, but in very limited quantities. It's not clear why Best Buy would be involved in a trial of the hottest phone to hit since the iPhone 3G? Limited quantities would cause immediate sellouts at Best Buy locations and result in plenty of frustrated customers.

Rumor: One of our forum members has managed to get some actual hands-on time with the Palm Pre. According to artap99, a friend that does 'online electronic product reviews' managed to get a Palm Pre, but it's not clear how, why or who for that matter. In any event, here are his initial impressions of the Palm Pre.

No sooner than word of the Palm Eos coming to AT&T, comes a rumor that a CDMA version of the new super-thin webOS powered smartphone will also be headed to Sprint. PhoneNews reports the Palm Eos (Pixie) is testing within Sprint for a possible release later this year, perhaps as early as the third quarter. Specs are in line with the AT&T model, outside of support for EVDO Rev. A data.

Is this the "Mini Pre" that was being rumored for release later this year? BGR has somehow managed to get a blurrycam photo of what might be the next generation Palm Centro that some are calling the "Mini Pre".

While attempting to find out the official release date for the Palm Pre, TechCrunch came across information regarding a new webOS device they are calling the "Mini-Pre". During our Q&A after Palm's CES event, representatives from Palm did confirm that webOS would show up on new Palm devices. News that a new, smaller webOS device that might hit before the end of 2009 is certainly big news and it's earlier than we expected.
Reports say it could come as early as the Fall. For the past year, there has been a buzz regarding the iPhone nano, but nothing coming from Cupertino suggests this product exists. Palm's "Mini-Pre" could fill that niche and expand the webOS ecosystem.
