Sprint today confirmed their exclusive on the Palm Pre runs through 2009. The response was in large part due to quotes from Verizon's Chief Executive Lowell McAdam how exclaimed Verizon would sell the Palm Pre in the next six months, putting a Verizon Palm Pre on shelves in time for the all important 2009 holiday season. According to Sprint, their exclusive runs through 2009.
"We have the Pre through 2009," said spokesman James Fisher.

The Palm Eos is rumored to become available on AT&T later this year, but AT&T's CEO Randall Stephenson didn't rule out selling the Palm Pre sometime in the future. Sprint has an exclusive on the Palm Pre, but neither company has offered information on when the exclusivity ends.

Wireless companies spend millions trying to convince consumers to select their service. Undoubtedly, you've seen commercials promising "fewer dropped calls" or the familiar Verizon network group that follows you around town. With the growth of smartphones, wireless companies now pitch their data services and this has become a new revenue stream, with most unlimited data plans starting at $30. Unlimited doesn't actually mean unlimited and it couldn't be more apparent than AT&T's recent confirmation that they were involved in removing 3G capability on the SlingPlayer for iPhone application. Sprint has done a great job creating buzz around the Palm Pre and this move by AT&T offers them a unique opportunity to generate a different kind of buzz.

No sooner than word of the Palm Eos coming to AT&T, comes a rumor that a CDMA version of the new super-thin webOS powered smartphone will also be headed to Sprint. PhoneNews reports the Palm Eos (Pixie) is testing within Sprint for a possible release later this year, perhaps as early as the third quarter. Specs are in line with the AT&T model, outside of support for EVDO Rev. A data.

It started with news of a "Mini Pre", followed up by a blurry-cam shot of this mysterious device and now even more leaks regarding the follow-up to Palm's Pre phone. Engadget has added more to the mix on the Palm Eos (codenamed Castle) that will presumably be the next webOS device.

Palm has stated that a GSM version of the Palm Pre is in the works and many expect an announcement regarding a European release of the Palm Pre to occur in the next couple of months. GSM is the predominant wireless technology throughout the world and it is also used by AT&T and T-Mobile in the US. If the European GSM model is "quad-band", then an "unlocked" version would be functional with any US sim card. Apparently MobileCity feels confident that Palm will release a quad-band GSM model and has started taking pre-orders for an unlocked Palm Pre.

Palm Pre vs iPhone has been the topic of discussion in forums and tech blogs ever since the Pre was announced at CES. It appears as if AT&T has gotten into the action, with their AT&T iPhone 3G vs Sprint Palm Pre comparison chart. Of course, this chart intends to arm AT&T sales reps with a slightly slanted bias towards the iPhone. Typically, we've seen these sort of comparison sheets, but they are normally drafted by the challenger. Not so this time. If you were questioning the hype surrounding the Palm Pre, it appears that AT&T believes in it.
