I put Phantom Skinz protector from onto my Pre. I chose this one because of the special 50% price and they give you two of them. There was also a post somewhere online that said this product had less of an orange peel effect. Sadly, at first I thought orange peel effect was orange staining on the screen cover after installation. NO WAY I wanted that so that was a big factor. Later I found it was a texture effect and not staining of cover or screen....silly me. But in the end, I figure all of these screen covers do the same thing protect and heal from scratches. So, I went with the deal.
Install was easier than I thought. I was really worried about air bubbles or messing it up because this is first time using this type of screen protector. I thought it would stick permanently. It doesn't. But I recommend watching all of the videos. DO NOT TOUCH THE STICKY PART. I did this, put it on and I had a smudge that was showing. Didn't think it was a big deal but it was. So luckily I had a second protector to use and glad I put it on right. I had 2 air bubbles on front but said it was okay since everything else looked really smooth. I was worried about too much water on the screen so make sure you shake off as much water as you can. After wards, use toilet paper and touch TP to any water drops....don't rub. When they say let the edges dry before 'rolling' onto the edges, wait. If there are water drops, it will slide around and not stick.
This past Saturday I was pleased to find my Seidio holster sitting on my doorstep slightly ahead of schedule. Having owned their spring-clip holster for my Verizon-branded HTC 6800 for the last year and a half, I was very excited to see that Seidio had created one for my new Palm Pre. Since I'd been happy with my previous holster, I didn't hesitate to order the Pre version and I'm glad to report it does not disappoint.
A few weeks back, Palm announced that the Pre offered built-in support for iTunes syncing. For many, this is a great feature and makes the transition to the Palm Pre that much easier. One would think that Apple was none too pleased. Things have been quiet in Cupertino, but a recent support area entry appeared today that warns against the use of third-party digital media players.
Lowell McAdam, CEO for Verizon Wireless, spoke at a Barclays Capital conference where he discussed upcoming devices and again confirmed the Palm Pre would be coming to Verizon Wireless. What's more, McAdam references "the cousin" of the Pre, which we'll assume is the Palm Eos, codenamed Pixie.
According to J.P. Morgan analyst Paul Coster, Sprint has sold 100,000 Palm Pre phones since the launch on June 6th. Coster believes 50,000 phones were sold during the first two days and the company may have sold an additional 50,000 through other channels in the days that followed.
Rumor: According to the WSJ, a person familiar with the situation, says that Verizon Wireless will start carrying the Palm Pre in January of 2010. Verizon's CEO Lowell McAdam was recently quoted as saying Verizon would carry the Palm Pre within 6 months. This prompted Sprint's Dan Hesse to retort suggesting that Verizon "check their facts". January 2010 would be 7 months.
Sprint has updated their Palm Pre portal at www.sprint.com/pre and now uses a Flash animation that showcases the features of the Palm Pre. Central to the ad is the multi-tasking component of the Pre, which seems to be the main thrust of their marketing efforts and for now a definite advantage over other smartphones. While there is a bit of a load time, the resulting animation is well done. Not only does it clearly demonstrate the key benefits of the Palm Pre, when combined with the voice overs, the Pre itself demonstrates a bit of personality. "Want to surf the web, I hope you weren't texting". Like the Pre itself, the animated Pre is a quirky, confident little bugger.
Roger McNamee sat down with FOX Business today and talked about the Palm Pre. McNamee did not offer hard sales numbers, but confirmed the Pre sold out in "many, many locations", which echos what we'd been hearing in our forums. McNamee was on point throughout most of the interview, citing the keyboard, multi-tasking among the advantages of the Pre, while refusing to call the Pre an "iPhone killer". Say one thing for McNamee, he's a good interview and certainly does not lack enthusiasm for the Pre. He also offers some interesting uses for the mirror on the back of the Palm Pre.
After seeing a huge Facebook page a few weeks back, we knew there was a Palm Pre Facebook commercial in the works and it popped up today on Sprint's YouTube account. One would suspect you'll start seeing this ad running during primetime in the coming days.
