Turn off airplane mode as is disables the wi-fi too. q:

Acually yiu may be running into a "bug" IIRC the phone uses Sprints "proxy" or DNS even when on wi-fi.

Maybe it won't resolve the addresses in Europe as it's was no intended to be used there.
