Keeping Clock App Active with Touchstone

Does anyone know how to keep the clock app active when the Pre is on the Touchstone? I'm talking about the clock app with the "flipping" numbers, not the default time that comes up while the Pre is charging. It seem when I have my Pre on the Touchstone, sometimes it will stay on whatever application that is active and other times it will time-out and go back to the default time display. I just can't seem to figure out what I'm doing that makes it behave one way or the other. I guess this isn't really about the clock app specifically... but rather keeping the default time display with the lock from coming up. I haven't changed any settings
