I charge my phone nightly. I updated it last night. It was fully charged when I left the house at 6:30am, by 2pm, it was at 20%. By 2:30, it was dead. It used to be I could go all day and well into 10 - 11pm before the phone needed a charge. I'm starting to wonder if I will need to buy a charger to keep in my office. I don't even use my phone that much during the day. Check my email (never send), look at facebook, and text. I like the fact that finally I can forward a text, but if the phone is going to be dead before I can forward, I guess it's useless, isn't it?

I currently let my phone charge while I'm in the office. I have an extra usb cable and I just plug into my cpu at work. That way when I leave the office my battery is @ 100 %. Its either that or charging all the backup batteries...and that takes way to much time. Meanwhile I say tweak your settings (ie signing out of aim, yim, gtalk, backlight, turn off @ 30 sec)

It is becoming increasingly clear that Palm really messed up a lot of things with this update.

I barely used it and @ 9p I have 15% left. That's BAD!

Default Battery burn out resolution

I had the same problems as noted by others in the forum and they were successfully resolved today.

Problems
  • Upgraded to 1.3.1
  • Battery life went to 0% in less than 6 hours when phone was not in use at all - no talk, no surfing
  • Annoying (repeated) notification that Y! was requesting me to reenter my password
Solution

I did the following things -- sorry, not a controlled experiment with changes to only a single variable:

  • Reset network preference to Sprint only - no roaming. As noted in earlier posts, the 1.3.1 upgrade reset my network preference.
  • Removed Y! as an email, contact, and calendar account; left Y! as a Messaging account (I use Y! Messenger)
  • Ensured that I was signed off in Messaging
  • Rebooted
Today, battery life is 50% after 18 hours of mostly standby use. Problem solved.

Unfortunately i don't think most of us have the Y! issue, but glad it worked for you. My pre has been significantly worse than before the 1.3.1 update. I'm surprised this thread is only 2 pages.

"Defective battery" in initial Pre deliveries.

Just (11/22/09) took my phone into the Sprint Stores (had to wait at one for 20 minutes to be told to go to a "Repair Store" - waited there for 40 minutes).

They informed me that the batteries shipped in the initial Pre deliveries where defective - they said they replaced the battery and everything should work now.

I have a launch day phone, I've not had this much trouble with battery life since the second update. Now using the phone the same as I've been using it, I get half the life. Wtfrog Palm?
