Default Disappearing Emails

I have had a number of problems with my pre that I have resolved, but the last one I have is the problem with the disappearing email. The Sprint people have observed this happening and have no explanation.

Here is what happens: I get a notice that I have a new email at the bottom of my pre screen. When I click on the email notification, it opens my inbox and the inbox is empty. I can even let 4 or 5 emails build up, and it doesn't matter. They are still gone.

This happens whether my work computer which downloads emails is on or off. I have both of my work and my pre set up as IMAP. The disappearing emails are available on my work computer.

Occasionally I am able to read an email on my pre, but it too will eventually disappear. If I am able to read the email, no email will ever stay in my inbox for more than 10 minutes. I have not been able to determine any pattern for this. It does not coincide with my work email program (Outlook) being open or closed.

I have looked for settings on the pre which might only show unread emails in the inbox, which might explain it, but I can find none.

Any ideas? Is there any other information that would help? I think I need to return my pre and give up if I can't get this resolved.

My father was experiencing this same problem. It took him about 5 hours on the phone with Palm before he could get it resolved. Here is what he did: he changed the email address to recent:yourname@domain.com. He also had to use POP3. Give that a try and let me know if it works.

I had the same/similar problem and the resolution was to delete the email account (Gmail) and then reestablish it ..... everything then worked as it should.

my email has one minor issue. i get all my emails, but after a few days, it will still tell me i have new emails (the number on the top right in the email screen), even tho i dont have any new ones. only way i was able to reset that number to be correct was to remove the email account and then set it up again. but after a few days it happened again.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions...

Nerbe: Unfortunately I have deleted and reestablished the email account twice and it hasn't fixed the problem.

amseidler: It might work...kinda. So, he actually put the verbiage "recent" before the email address??? Interesting. I will play with that. Problem with using pop is that then I won't get the mails at work if I get them on my handheld. That is the whole point of IMAP... getting the mail in both places.

I kinda have this odd feeling that for my $200 bucks plus a new 2 year contract I should be getting a phone that has email that I can actually read.

I, too, am having the same problem. I've tried Nerbe's suggestion delete account/reestablish account twice, and that didn't work. And when I tried to set it up as per amseidler, it wouldn't let me enter the address with the "recent:" before my email address.

So, when I get an email - if I see it the second it pops up, and I open it right away, I can read it - but next time I open the mail it's gone. This last time, I ACTUALLY SAW the email disappear as I exited mail and it became a card on my screen, the email I just received vanished.

If I get the email notification at the bottom of my screen and don't go within a second or two, the email is gone and the notification is the only way I know I got mail.

Currently, I have a bookmark set up for my webmail and that's the way I'm dealing with it for now.

I welcome ANY suggestions. Thanks.

Yeah, I also tried to set up a new account with "recent:" before the email and the submit button would not activate to allow me to do it. I was able to set the account up manually, but my email server just rejected it. I am wondering if there is some other syntax that we are missing???

One suggestion: I turned notification off and my emails seem to be staying right now. I will see if they stay in the box.

My current settings:

Smart Folders: Both switches on

Notification: off
Play sound: on
Show Email: 7 days
Get mail: as items arrive

Mail type: IMAP
Default port, encryption, etc. for incoming and outgoing servers.
