I am glad to see less people calling out members for being trolls if they mention anything negative about the Pre or mention the iPhone. I like good debate and discussion revolving various platforms. There is no perfect phone or platform. I switch phones often, not one is perfect.
Could not agree with this more. I like Android alot, but people fawning over it just haven't used it on a day in, day out basis. When it first arrived on the scene, people talked about how exciting it was because of what was possible with it. Well, we're on 2.0 and we're still talking about what's possible with it, i.e. not a whole lot has changed. It's gotten a bit of a facelift with the Droid, but it is still as clunky to use as ever and nowhere near as intuitive as WebOS. Don't lust after any of those apps either, most of them are dreck.

Understand this isn't about necessarily bashing it or being a Pre fanboy, just putting things in perspective. I've owned lots of smartphones across different platforms and I've liked most of them. I think Android is outstanding and ranks just below WebOS. Right now, however, I do believe WebOS to be the best of the lot. It is intuitive, fun to use, and very functional. Yes, they need to get a move on in development for the tech crowd and more importantly, the great unwashed (the folks that BUY). Even things as simple as a native Facebook app and Yahoo IM would be very welcome.

And stop taking tech blogs at face value. Lots of these guys have built in biases based on popularity contests. When the iPhone was first released, they couldn't stop crapping on it. Now that it's the homecoming queen, they all love it to death and compare every single device against it. It's a lot of nonsense. They, and we, should all hope that WebOS has a bright future. It's an amazing platform. The Pre is anything but yesterday's news. Go compare the features to any new smartphone and you'll see odds are not only does your Pre already do that, but it does it better.

One would have to assume that they were under a tremendous amount of pressure to get the product out the door before all the Android devices started flooding the market. Of course, this doesn't really explain why there are still so many missing features five months later.

I still love my PRE. I havent got one APP from the app store so I dont care whats there or not. Im one of the people that mainly use it to web surf and text. So in regards to the phone I still love it.

I still pass by the site when I get a chance, work picked up so I have less time to come on here and give Joe and Aldo a hard time..

( aldo is a traitor...for the record.... and ugly. )

The last couple of weeks I've been getting down about my Pre not having tethering. I read this thread and discussed it with two friends from work who have the new Hero. They said on the Hero forums that they read Hero owners are complaining about how the hero isn't like the Pre. So I guess the theory of "Greener on the other side" is true. I haven't used the Hero mind you, just replying what I've heard Hero owners say. So that makes me feel better about my Pre. I have hopes for the futire but if not, I'm happy with my Pre.

Pre remains awesome... Palm just needs to get on the ball. They're probably overworked but I am not open to excuses. With all the competition I do think it's do or die. Forget settling for limited market share, this is the best OS and should widely be regarded as such. Palm, wake the [heck] up. Check out all the patches and either pay te authors or steal their code!!! You've got until Christmas before I get down on Pre. And, I'll admit that the updates have vrought welcome features, but you have to come with it the next time around. Okay. Thanks.

Having an Open OS across many CPU/GPU platforms is the ONLY way to go if you plan to survive. Even more so as the mobile device looks to replace the desktop pc.

I am not sure how you can say Apple's Smartphone business model is a model of failure, they have the largest share of the market that any one phone has. I will admit that Palm cannot do the exact same thing Apple did and survive but the middle of the road approach can work well. Keep in mind that the Pre and Pixi will be launching on AT&T and Verizon in Q1 2010. Even though Android will be across all the major carriers the actual phones will not be. If I was buying a phone I sure as heck would want one that wont be killed off for the next model with the same OS...

just because it controls the majority of the market does not mean it will e entually fall. The market will catch up and swallow this phone as the pc did to the mac. Crappy windows based hw is still the driving force of revenue when it comes to tech in general. 1.. They marketed it down the mouth on the consumer 2.. They are are constantly cming out with updates and various add ons... Even though flacky people eat them up. Don't get me wrong, the iphone set a level that took yrs foe the rest of the other smartphone mfg to catch up.. But their model of propriatary hw/sw.. Will die..

I had faith in the beginning, then 3 months go by and the only fix that i have noticed with the updates has been battery life.

IMO this phone is the biggest flop of any phone to come out to date. I'm saying that because all the hype it had. You still can't forward text, you can't take video, you have to download a special app to change system sounds, and your odds of winning the lottery are better than your odds of successfully answering a phone call.

here is what i hate about my phone

- the phone app, its the buggiest app on the whole PHONE. after all it is a phone so this is where it should function best. When i have an incoming call and i touch the answer button i get a missed call notification. then when i click on call back it goes to that persons contact info. say i want to look for a person in my recent call history, that is a pain in the ass because the phone struggles to run the recent call list

- the build quality. my slider is so loose that the top part of the phone will twist so far that i can't hit the button to turn the screen on without using two hands. then i have to because to slowly slide it shut because if i'm not my phone will shut down, then i have to wait for it to boot up. I'm getting old, i don't have time for that.

- the design. the keyboard is tiny and the screen isn't the biggest. but that much i knew when i bought the phone

- the features. lets see, I'll just go with the good here because that is a lot less typing. Multi tasking is alright, this is the one single advantage over the iphone. lets not forget that the pre is a hitman hired to assassinate the iphone. the browser is very impressive

- the app store. everything cost money, we can't afford to pay 4 dollars just to check our netflix queue from our pre, we just spent all the money we had been saving to buy our pre.

- the single coolest thing about the phone is an over priced accessory, and it like the phone doesn't always work right. I'm talking about the touchstone. ahh yes, i remember seeing videos on youtube about the pre and touchstone. how you just lay your phone on it and it magically charges, and comes with the pre. wait a minute, you don't just lay it on there, you have to slide around and find a sweet spot which sometimes is more difficult than plugging a phone into a charger (unless you own a pre, then it is like trying to break into area 51). Oh wait, come to find out that video lied, you have to buy the touchstone separately which just adds to your sprint store bill.

- the price. lets see, yep more than a hero, more than a moment, more than a my touch, more than an iphone. i really feel like i was taken advantage of at this point for buying a pre

if the next update fixed all the software problems then i might consider keeping it. I got one the first week they were out and i have had the same one since, most people are on their 3rd or 4th by now, i can't imagine how i would feel about the phone if i were in that same boat.

my current heading is android, and i don't see anything changing my course
