System Tools or Repair Official I'm returning the Palm Pre because...

We've had our fair share of members who feel compelled to throw a parting shot before they leave. I'm all for healthy debate, but given that most of these threads are from "soon to be inactive" members, I'd ask that we keep it all within this forum thread.

You'll still have your say, as long as you follow the forum policy, but this will help keep the forums organized and not cluttered with "I'm returning because...".

If you are an existing member that is happy with your Palm Pre, you can feel free to simply ignore this thread. Please do not engage in member bashing -- and that applies to both sides.

If you a new member who comes in using foul language and/or berading members, chances are very good that your membership privileges will be rescinded. If you are leaving for an iPhone, then I'd like to recommend you check out this iPhone forum.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Chris make this a sticky

Chris also take a look at my post about difference between hardware issues and software issues, I think that make a good sticky, I can revise it so it be better stciky.

I returned my Pre because I was within the 30 day limit and I found myself repeatedly justifying numerous quibbles.
Tasks took too long to accomplish on the phone. Simple things were missing (Saving a number as a new contact didn't save that state system-wide), other things didn't work (I constantly ran into browser problems). Much of the GUI was inconsistent.

I returned the Pre to buy an iPhone. I am paying $3 a month, but I am very happy. Applications open quickly and each app has a save state, so it is much like multitasking on the Pre, but without cards.

I don't miss the Pre, but I missed my Instinct when I had the Pre--so that is saying something. I love the virtual keyboard on the iPhone. I love the solid feel of it, the thousands of applications, and syncing all of my information from my Macs.

I don't think the Pre is a bad phone. It is great for Sprint. But it is a public beta, much like iPhone OS 1.0. Only Palm had the chance to copy ideas and incorporate features from their past OSes. I chose to switch because I wanted a phone that I found more usable and something that I wouldn't have to justify or wait around for. Plus, I find my iPhone applications useful.

I love my Palm Pre, but I do understand your concerns. Honestly my biggest issue with the iPhone is AT&T. I work for them, and I know how they are to customers. Plus the price wasn't worth it to me. But I'm glad you gave the Pre a shot, and who knows maybe down the line you'll reconsider it...for now enjoy your iPhone! (and I do mean that sincerly)

I have to agree wholeheartedly that it is a public Beta, but we all knew that going in, very much as any first gen phone is. Good luck with your new phone. For some it's just about the apps and that is cool, you were also having problems with the UI so I can understand.

I returned my Pre because sprint wouldn't lower the the price on it. They're giving it to a new member for 99 bucks, yet I've been there 11 years, and they're charging me full price. Love the phone, but had no choice. I'm with AT&T now with the iPhone.

What do you mean $99??!!! All new subscribers and those that were Rebate eligible(And if you search, you will find posts that some members were able to work out getting the rebate even if Sprint declined it) Paid the $299. Also Best Buy and Radio Shack knocked off the rebate at POS so you did have to pay $199 not $99. So I do call Bravo Sierra on your price contention...

But good luck paying more in the long run and enjoy the Iphone. Make sure to check out Icafe...

I am still in my 30 days and so far these are my concerns (haven't turned into dealbreakers *yet)

The battery life is just god awful. I know I can get a replacement but I really don't want to pay 45$ for it.

HOT HOT HOT. It is almost scalding where the battery is, must be cause it is draining so fast.

Lack of apps. It is pretty short sighted to not have released the dev kit yet. I can't even get a simple grocery app, which is fueling my iphone envy.

Things that will probably make me keep it:

The keyboard is responsive, which is a huge upgrade from the instinct which never kept up with my typing.

The apps I do have are awesome. I love pandora, fandango, and most of the mlb stuff. The flight track saved my ass when I had to pick my brother up and forgot the slip of paper with the number at home.

The feel. The phone is light but solid. It feels great in my hand and it actually fits in my pocket without it looking like I am happy to see you.

I am 75-25 in favor of keeping it but anything could happen in the next two weeks.

Hmm,
The updates they have put out thus far (for me anyway) have seemed to extend battery life, as well as cool the sucker down. Apps will be here by summers end!
