I'm just wondering what takes the major app makers (SPB, Resco, Lakeridge, etc....) to decide if a new OS or Platform is worth making software for? From what I understood, Android and WebOS were such open platforms, I thought developers would jump at the chance to make software for them. I've talked to the developer behind Lakeride Software (Wisbar Advance) and he has yet to look at the Pre's SDK.
I thought Sprint was crazy for refusing to accept Android phones when the G1 was released. Now they are kicking theirselves for it and trying to release as many Android phones as possible.
Just wondering why the App Developers are so hesitate about making apps for new platforms.
What do you guys think?

The number of device sales, SDK, approval process and opportunity for profit. When you start seeing Palm announcing milestones for devices sold, there will be more interest in the platform.
I'm not a developer, but wondering if the current SDK limits the capabilities of devs.

I was wondering the samething about the SDK. But if its not that easy to use, how are the PreCentral guys making Homebrew apps so easily?
I think its time Palm contact HTC , Samsung and LG to start making phones for them using WebOS. The PRe's form factor is not for everyone. And just having one device is not making any profits for them. They really need some help at this point.

I'm almost positive that the limited SDK is hampering things. Kimona and Core, two of the major players out there cannot do a thing right now because of the limited SDK. I remeber a while back when the first Mojo SDK was released we had a game dev on the boards also lamenting the same thing.
Unfortunately it's a wait for us. But then again apps was not what brought me to the pre or my previous winmo phone...

You would think they would have given full functionally to the SDK, so they could get more apps created for the App Catalog and give people more of reason to want the Pre.
Did Google do the samething with the Android SDK?

either Palm is taking it's pretty little time, they don't know how to prioritize, or they have WAY more going on that my ignorance can appreciate.... all this time I can't customize my text alerts.... But, the multitaking/ cards ROCKS! I wonder how Androids multitasking compares

I know the G1 either didnt have it or was really bad at it. Cause up against the Pre , it sucked.

Android handles it differently. What's great about webOS is that cards are an immediate reminder that apps are open. With Android, apps stay open in the background, but you have not "card" to really remind you it's running. They do have notifications pull down menu from the top which is handy. Let's say you get new tweets (twitter) or new email, a message will appear at the top. You pull down the window and can act on it. Similar to webOS, but in reverse.
I prefer Palm's way of doing it... something about having cards/windows makes it feel more like my desktop and that's a good thing.

I agree. One thing that bothers is that we dont have a task manager type app. I would like to see if anything is running in the background of the device.

I feel we don't need a taskmaster. Whenever there are cards in the background , they are live and running. if there are no cards nothing is running .Except when you get a message, when it is in backup mode
