    Battery burned out since 1.3.1

Since I updated to WebOS 1.3.1 I noticed my battery was dying extremely fast. Well today, the touchstone stopped charging it, so I plugged the USB charger in, and even though it said the phone was charging it was still discharging. In essence it appears the battery has completely burned out. It was my original battery from launch date...but still it's only been 6 months. Has anyone else experienced this since the new update?

i have notice it gets extra hot now and the battery life isnt as good as it use to be. but mine still works and charges

I did notice since the update my phone had been getting hotter. It went from 100% to 40% in just 3 hours of limited use and then stopped all together. Luckily I had a spare battery but now I'm nervous it will happen again!

yeah...mine too. After the first night I updated I left my fully charged phone on my nighstand and woke up to a dead phone.

Im keeping my eye on this thread.... I think I have a case of the drains as well :(

in researching this I read that every time the phone is updated the battery has to recalibrate itself. After 4 cycles it should be back to normal. Mine does seem to be a little better. Also....if you have yahoo accounts on your phone, the new update set the mail accounts to push everything to the phone. That is a big drain as well.....

I have my work email along with gmail... I wonder if that is one of the reasons it's draining. Today I havent noticed it draining much. I unplugged it around 6:45am and had it plugged in my computer for maybe 20 minutes today and now it's 2:35pm and it's at 76%.

I've taken 6 pictures, emailed 3 people, added ringtones, redid my voicemail and surfed the net for about 10 minutes. Not too bad really...

My battery now lasts about 4 hour from fully charged to empty. I haven't signed up my yahoo account and it's had more than 4 cycles and battery life still sucks.

mine seems to have leveled off now, but I did notice a big difference when I turned location services back on.

The first few days I noticed a huge difference too.

Mine seemed to be related to the Data Network connection. I had the data radio on at work after the update and was receiving notices every time it dropped out of the network. Before the update I would not get notices. The screen turns on for each notice, the phone vibrates and needing to process a notice while also re-syncing with my email made me think they altered they data radio processing. I have my Data radio off currently and I'm still running 95-100% battery after 5 hours off the charger. My pre 1.3.1 percentage would be 70-80% at this time and my 1.3.1 with radio on was 50-60%

Just to clarify, I work in a steel reinforced concrete building. My phone stays in my pocket, which is under a metal desk for most of the day. So to say I was expecting any signal at work is a bit of a stretch.

My location services are off for days at a time.

battery life has dropped off by a couple hours here too, and i have the extended battery

I charge my phone nightly. I updated it last night. It was fully charged when I left the house at 6:30am, by 2pm, it was at 20%. By 2:30, it was dead. It used to be I could go all day and well into 10 - 11pm before the phone needed a charge. I'm starting to wonder if I will need to buy a charger to keep in my office. I don't even use my phone that much during the day. Check my email (never send), look at facebook, and text. I like the fact that finally I can forward a text, but if the phone is going to be dead before I can forward, I guess it's useless, isn't it?

I currently let my phone charge while I'm in the office. I have an extra usb cable and I just plug into my cpu at work. That way when I leave the office my battery is @ 100 %. Its either that or charging all the backup batteries...and that takes way to much time. Meanwhile I say tweak your settings (ie signing out of aim, yim, gtalk, backlight, turn off @ 30 sec)

It is becoming increasingly clear that Palm really messed up a lot of things with this update. :016:frown

    I barely used it and @ 9p I have 15% left. That's BAD!

    Battery burn out resolution

I had the same problems as noted by others in the forum and they were successfully resolved today.

    Problems

    • Upgraded to 1.3.1
    • Battery life went to 0% in less than 6 hours when phone was not in use at all - no talk, no surfing
    • Annoying (repeated) notification that Y! was requesting me to reenter my password
    Solution

I did the following things -- sorry, not a controlled experiment with changes to only a single variable:

    • Reset network preference to Sprint only - no roaming. As noted in earlier posts, the 1.3.1 upgrade reset my network preference.
    • Removed Y! as an email, contact, and calendar account; left Y! as a Messaging account (I use Y! Messenger)
    • Ensured that I was signed off in Messaging
    • Rebooted
Today, battery life is 50% after 18 hours of mostly standby use. Problem solved.

Unfortunately i don't think most of us have the Y! issue, but glad it worked for you. My pre has been significantly worse than before the 1.3.1 update. I'm surprised this thread is only 2 pages.

"Defective battery" in initial Pre deliveries.

Just (11/22/09) took my phone into the Sprint Stores (had to wait at one for 20 minutes to be told to go to a "Repair Store" - waited there for 40 minutes).

They informed me that the batteries shipped in the initial Pre deliveries where defective - they said they replaced the battery and everything should work now.

right... except that the "defective" battery only started becoming this way after 1.3.1. interesting...

I have a launch day phone, I've not had this much trouble with battery life since the second update. Now using the phone the same as I've been using it, I get half the life. Wtfrog Palm?
