Compatible Touchstone Micro USB Cable Hey folks... I've been loving my Pre and my Touchstone. I'm more than happy to give Palm some more $$, but they're not making it easy. I'd like to get a second Touchstone for my office. While Palm offers a number of Touchstone kits... from what I can tell, none of them come with the micro USB cable. I tried to get info by using Palm's "instant chat" feature with a support person. Well... to start, I explained what I was looking for... they confirmed "So you are looking for a micro USB cable for your Pre?". They then went on to explain how to replace the back cover on the Pre and how to connect the Touchstone... without ever saying anything about getting a replacement cable. I'm guessing it was definitely not a US support person... though an automated system probably would have given me better results. When I re-explained, they said I could get the cable from the Sprint Store or the Palm Store. I couldn't find anything on the Sprint Store and I'm not exactly clear on the one on Palm's site. I'm looking at the following from J&R.com: http://www.jr.com/palm/pe/PLM_3403WW/ This is the same part number as the cable shown on Palm's site... but it is listed for the Treo Pro and Treo 800W on J&R's site (on Palm's site, it also lists the Pre). I know most micro USB cables will fit the Pre directly, my question is will this cable fit into the rather small space for the Touchstone without having to file it down or something? I just want to be sure this will actually work with the Touchstone. The fact that it "works" with the Pre doesn't necessarily mean it will work with the Touchstone. I've been looking online constantly and can't really find a clear answer. If anyone knows, I'd be grateful. Palm will be grateful as well since I'll be buying another Touchstone. They really could have made this much easier by just throwing an extra cable in with the Touchstones. Grazie !
I'm not really sure if they will have the specific cable you want, but I would look into generic websites. Some of them include packages that include like a home charger and auto charger, but it also includes a USB cable like I think you want? Not sure, but here's one to get you started on your search Palm Pre Accessories. Just google palm accessories and start your search I guess. Hope I helped at least a little.
This and ANY generic USB to Micro USB will work. It doesnt have to be a Palm dubbed product. If it wasnt it would be a violation of the USB Implementers Forum. So in essence, it could be for a Blackberry for all the Palm Pre is concerned. Hope that helps.
Pre Cable I have a couple of USB cables that required me to cut down a ridge before going smoothly into the charting port on the 'Stone. Not a big deal, but you might want to take the 'Stone with you and try it. motrid
