    End calls by closing phone?

Im just wondering who else would like to hang up conversations by closing their Pre. I think it would be cool to have a setting in the Preferences part of the Phone App.

Agreed. In fact there are times i've done this out of habbit thinking I ended the call.

It's a great idea. Several times I've closed the keyboard thinking it will end the call. I guess it's the flip-phone mentality still around. :)

In addition, I think it would be a great idea to have custom settings area for many features of the phone. Example: set quiet times for sounds. I am sure many of you have breaking news/sports/etc.. alerts pushed to the devices. Wouldn't it be nice to set it to silent between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM to keep your spouse happy? And you won't have to keep changing sound settings every time you go to sleep.

There is a wish list floating around. I hope this suggestion gets there.

Add my name to this one. Seems natural. Similarly, why not have OPEN SLIDER while ringing answer the phone?

I agree! There are still a lot of things that Palm needs to work on, but there are way more Pro's than Con's in this case!

I do it all the time thinking I am hanging up.

So, I was thinking.... I popped keyboard out, typed in a contact and dialed.... And now I am in the middle of the conversation - with open keyboard. But I want to drop that phone in my pocket and continue conversation. How is this going to be done if Palm would implement the "end call" by closing feature.

I still love the idea of a hanging up upon closing slider, but what to do in this situation. Because this is actually happens often (at least in my case). I make a call, shut down slider, hit the power button on the corner to get rid of accidental navigation while the phone in my picket.

Need to give it more thought... Ideas?

They can just give the option aveksler, instead of hard coding it. A lot of people would want to end it by closing, but a lot wouldn't.

I have closed the phone intending to end the call myself a few times. While it's not the most intuitive option to implement (since the mic is on the front and not on the bottom, so sliding down will have no effect on the mic), come on - it's cool. We all know it's cool to end a phone call like this. Who hasn't seen the Matrix? We also know it's faster to end a call like this instead of having to use a bit of dexterity to pull the phone away and click on the end call button and make sure you are not clicking outside of it.

While they are at it, they should implement the ability to have sound emotes on the slide in/out. I had a friend with an HTC phone several years ago that made sounds when you opened and closed the phone (not customizeable though). How cool would it be to customize something like this? You could have a power up sound when you answered the phone, and when you ended the call and closed the phone, you could maybe emote the sound of a pistol cocking, or a hot female secretary saying "Call Terminated."

I learned the hard way early on when I made a call, said goodbye, and didn't press the red phone icon or flick the dialer card off that the caller COULD STILL HEAR ME because I had not properly diconnected the call. Ugh.

    Lesson learned. :p

To mrjspeed's previous comment: Having an option would be a good idea. Perhaps hitting center gesture button and closing phone would keep call from disconnecting where only closing keyboard alone would end the call.

good idea! There are so many options when it comes to gestures. I don't find myself using the "forward" gesture on the bottom right of the phone very much, maybe they could make use of that. There is always "double" clicking the center button too, I don't see that used much.

I guess I'm the anomoly. There's times I'm texting or doing something on my phone with the keyboard out and a call comes in. I like the fact that when I "close" the phone, I am still able to continue my conversation. I guess it's all just personal preference but if this is something they plan on doing with their next gen device, I'd hope that it's only an option and not something they make standard.

Going even beyond that I suggested to Palm to consider custom event notifications. Not only for the end call, but to rethink implementing things like being able to customize vibrate/sound events to set 'quiet hours' where nothing buzzes or rings. Or to have my own email notification, so I could distinguish difference between SMS and email.

You guys should bring this to their attention also. They have suggestion box, where these kinds of suggestion should be heard.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. I am really getting tired of this same Chin-Ching Chime everytime I get a txt message, an email, a missed call, a voicemail, or even a low battery alert. I honestly thought custom notifications would have been in the first update. But hopefully, when the summer ends, Palm will get on the ball and try to add some updates that we Pre users REALLY want

I am not a big fan of closing to end the call becasue I dont often sit with the phone open on a call, however i certainly think that it would work well if you could customize this. (I use the power button to end my calls)

It is natural. I have gotten into the habit of opening up the keyboard to universal search for who I am calling and after hitting the green phone I just put it to my ear right away, with the keyboard still open.
