FCC OK's Verizon Pixi with WiFi

FCC OK's Verizon Pixi with WiFi

Engadget has spied a new FCC recordset containing some details on a yet to be announced Verzion branded Palm Pixi. The FCC reports go on to show a new CDMA based Pixi variant with the addition of WiFI to the standard feature set. The reports were originally issued on November 12th and mostly contain various technical analysts and related reports. Device photos and technical schematics have been withheld for the time being. The newly approved Pixi carries a model number of P121EWW, with the FCC ID of 08F-PIXEW.

With this regulatory hurdle out of the way, the path is now set for Verizon to begin offering its first webOS based device sometime in early 2010. The company previously made its intentions well known with a number of choice quotes from VZW's CEO and even big red's Twitter account gave some kind of confirmation it would at least offer the Palm Pre.

Angry. Angry. Angry. Shame on Sprint and Palm, and anyone else involved with not having wifi on the Sprint version.

It was OBVIOUSLY a carrier decision! Blame Sprint.

OMG! The world is coming to an end!

Well not really. I don't care as the phone does just what it needs to do for my wife.
She never uses wi-fi even on her phone that had it. Bring on the multitudes that are going to caomplain and say how they're going to switch to VZ because of this :)

IMO yes it was , but I was wondering if Verizon will come or not with Pre as well? I see is not easy for some carriers to run 2 different models with webos at this time, maybe I am wrong.

You can be condescendingly smug as you wan't to be. I really dont give a damn about what you or your wife want.

The bottom line is, Sprint should have added it. I'm not leaving Sprint. I'm just a bit mad that they didn't add something to the phone they should have.

The world doesn't revolve around you and your wife. Next time you reply you may want to take that into consideration.

    Your funny :)

So the world revolves around you and what you want.. I will take that into consideration as Sprint should.

there's more people with Pixi's that will never miss that wi-fi. If it was that important to you you should've bought a Pre. I shall now predict the next post O:

You can attempt to predict it, but you would probably be wrong.

I have no intention of leaving Sprint. I'm happy with the service they provide me. But it (for lack of a better term) sucks that thay crippled this phone. Lack of wifi wasn't a deal breaker for me, but yes, I'm miffed that two months after I get a phone, a feature I would have liked shows up on another carriers version of the phone...

You then decided that people wanted to hear your take about people complaining. Not for nothing, but if you and your wife are happy, why did you find a need to complain because people may be a bit upset? I have an idea, but I'll let it pass.

And as for buying a Pre, no thanks. The build quality is suspect, having already been through two of them.

Bottom line, Sprint shot themselves in the foot. Decisions like these are the reason they are in the position they are in terms of total number of customers.

My prediction was correct. If I was on me desktop I would have hidden it in the original message, too hard in the mobile version while driving.

It had to do with not wanting a Pre build quality.

    yay Me!

Well, be careful. Certainly wouldn't want you to have an accident while driving over a web forum debate. Now, given that you are driving, you might have missed it, but I've already been through 2 Pre's. The "Oreo" affect was so bad on both of them that I got tired of it. It seriously felt like they where falling apart everytime I slid the keyboard out.

I like WebOS. Bottom line. And yes, I'm a bit upset the Verizon version of the Pixi is getting wifi. I would hope you could understand that.

If I was out of line, and came off too strong in my original reply to you, my apolgies. My point was, yes, I'm a bit upset, and yes, I could see others getting upset about it as well.

    fr4nk1yn and JDGAFFLIN

You are in the USA, I am not, so would you both be kindly to answer this wondering I have : Pixi is announced for Verizon with wifi right.Ok then, Will Verizon come out or not with Pre as well? I see is not easy for some carriers to run 2 different models with webos at this time, maybe I am wrong.

    Thanks

Well, from all indications, Sprint's exclusivity agreement with Palm for the Pre runs out in January. I've heard, however, that it depends on how Sprint's sales numbers are. IIRC, if they reach a set number of sales, they can retain the exclusive agreement. Mind you, that's hearsay.. fr4nk1yn may know better then I do regarding who will be next to carry the Pre.
  13. fr4nk1yn New Member

We're cool. I was having a good time.

I will admit the Pre is delicate, but at least you had one, or two, so your entitled to say that.

My comment in no way singled you out. The interwebs is filled with people saying just what I said, it was a general comment.

But it seems that Sprint is not getting the sales target that I don“t think so or just the agreement ends this December or January 2010, because the FCC for a Pixi Verizon is cleared. Will see.

Here's my prediction for VZ and the Pre: Dunno :)

Stock numbers were leaked that indicate something. I think it would worth going back and looking at them.
I do think the Pixi with Wi-fi, if it does have wi-fi, would cut into Pre sales but they are two different phones. But I do have a hard time think VZ would release two WebOS phones in a short time.
  16. fr4nk1yn New Member

the pixi wasn't exclusive. The pre was/is.
  17. AKITAYO Active Member

Thats good news So Verizon will start first with Pixi wifi definetely
and with the support of all reailers Best Buy, Walmart ,Amazon ,wireless... ,expansys and Radio Shack and ......who knows., will boost sales.
  18. fr4nk1yn New Member

As much as I gate verizon it is a good thing. The more phones the more WebOS development.

How is the feeling of Verizon as a customer there: Good carrier, to expensive I mean Pros and cons?
  20. fr4nk1yn New Member

I had a VZ phone YEARS ago. About 20. There was a lot of issues with the plans and I was at the store getting it taken care of. I eventually canceled service.
I went to them to see about a phone 3 years ago and they wanted a $1500 deposit! All other carriers approved me for multiple lines no deposit. That's the reason I gate them. They could have the best CS but they royally P'd me off with that.
