i tried to convert my dark night portable digital copy (the small one intended for phones, etc) and it said "file to large."
just tried. went very fast, but resulted in a scratchy mosaic gobblety goop of unrecognizeable macro-blocking. did i do it wrong? i set it for iphone mpg4, was it supposed to be something else?
When using format factory, what settings are you guys using to find that sweet spot for quality vs file size? I've tried encoding to h264 and it's failed every time to playback on my pre. I can only get the divx mpeg4 videos to work. But currently I'm using 24 fps, 512 bitrate at 480x320. And only 22khz audio at 64 bitrate (purely to keep filesize down). What about everyone else?
Check chris's stickied guide in this section. It uses HandBrake and seems to play more nicely with Macs than Windows boxes. Best, .
i have yet to be successful w/ this program w/ anything from dvds to homemade stuff to clips from the intraweb. i'm gonna pass.
This is the answer I have recieved from FF support: "Do you mean fail to play on your MP4 Device? Or fail to convert? If fail to play on your MP4 Device? You can try to change "H264" 's fourCC to "avc1" in Option."

I just converted two DVDs using this tool and they both work fine on the Pre. I selected Mobile Device and then selected iphone 480x320 MP4 and left the rest alone and two hours later, I have a 600MB movie that plays fine with no audio synch problems. Just in time for my trip to CA this week, I'm going to convert a few more, put them on a USB drive and copy them to the Pre as I watch them using my netbook. Now I'm wishing the thing had more storage
