Found a Way to GPS Locate other pre users!

This has got to be the funniest hack I have done. Was playing with the internals and found a way to use the GPS to locate people using the pre..ROFL. I can write a small app for this if anyone is interested but I need to know that there is a small demand for it. SO please post here if you want this otherwise I am not going to spend development time doing so if no one wants it.

Long & Lat coordinates are provided...LoL.

This is for information purposes ONLY..:dft012:wink

Just so you know, I do not require other pre users to have their location service turned on...pre has a specific identification GPS code...

Also, I can do this in real time...

Anyone want to do a little GPS "where I am or was" treasure hunt...I can't believe they allowed this code to be accessible in the OS....I love it...

    Patching It

I am weary to spend a couple days programming this because I am sure with the next update to the WebOS they will completely eliminate this and negate all my programming. I have done that by the way...went up to someone and said "Hey I bet you have a palm pre"..."Yea how did you know that!?" HAHAHA:dft003:cool

In all seriousness however, I fell that people perhaps would misuse this but then again.....

I would suggest that you don't put it out there for public use. While it sounds like a cool idea, should someone misuse it for some purpose other then honerable purposes, it could make you an accessory.

Now all we need is an app that points out known po-po speed traps.

    Thats A Good Idea

That's a good idea, I could have the user simply mark their GPS location when they notice a spped trap and store it into a database and write an extension for it to the GPS program. I would need the users to build the database however.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I've been playing with the GPS API - never saw anything about this. Care to elaborate?

I know there is a po-po app for the iphone that was developed in good faith to 'slow drivers down' but cmon... we know who is downloading it.

The neat thing you also might consider if you wrote the program is that this app lets users vote on the validity of the said speed trap. Yes, it was also google map based.
