    GSM Anyone?

If Sprint have an exclusive until Jan 2010, how long will it be after Jan 1st before they have a GSM version?

It didn't take them too long after the Centro finished being a Sprint exclusive that we had a GSM one.

Might be worth thinking about for AT&T and T-Mobile users.

If the Pre sells well enough to be desired by other carriers I would be surprised if Apple loosens the stranglehold on AT&T long enough for them to ask for the phone. In, um, my opinion.

    Best,

Apple is rumored to have been in talks with making a Verizon version of their phone, perhaps as a way to get AT&T to commit more $$$ to apple for iPhone exclusivity during contract renegotiations.

Either way, every carrier and their grandmother has probably already inquired about carrying this phone after the Sprint launch. I think it would be pretty cool to see it on T-mobile's network, but their 3G coverage is horrendous right now.

Perhaps on the Boost Mobile network? lol.

also if Palm want to be really successful with the phone, they're going to need a GSM version for the rest of the world.

This is old news. UMTS version of the Pre was recently unveiled at GSMA.

Everyone knows there's gonna be a GSM version, but not until the first of the new year (at the earliest) because Palm has an exclusivity contract with Sprint for the first six months.

Im sure that contract stipulates that Palm doesn't leak any GSM info. Heaven knows if anyone can keep it a secret, it's Palm...

i'd be surprised if palm waits until end of the year to release the gsm version... i mean more android phones will be coming around, the new iphone, sony erricsson despite may be aimed at a different audience, so if palm is to make their glorious day, can't afford to wait till then

Sprint has an exclusive with Plam until the end of 2009 and so w won't see GSM versions until then. Outside of the US, all I've read is that O2 in the UK will get GSM Pre around Christmas.

I found that O2 is a Telefonica Movistar company in UK, some other web sites are speculating August, and others Christmas. I bet for Christmas. If that is confirmed Pre will come with Telefonica to Europe, and Latina America, so I am in. I expect the Pre no its little brother Eos.?

    Thanks for the tip

I agree looking at the specs, I don't think the EOS will be worth the $100 I'm sure they will be charging for it.

I don´t know if in UK but here in Ecuador carriers dont´work with no e mail or instant rebates. Custom Taxes are very high for smartphones and phones.

I am in the UK and hope the Pre will be coming soon. Keeping a close eye on the O2 rumours and hope the Pre will be here by September!

Are saying that Telefonica talks with Palm are around for Spain and Latin America only, and this is also not yet comfirmed.

Telstra (Aussie GSM operator) has made a statement in which they'd be selling Pres in August, while Telefonica (Movistar & O²) was rumoured on an exclusivity way back in february (before denying lately).
Dunno why it takes so long in other places of the World, specially Europe...
The GSM Pre version was expected to be launched simultaneously to the CDMA's one.

Telefonica have no subsidiary in my country, I'm afraid my 680 won't make it until Xmas...
Guess we'll have more news early after Sprint's launch...
