    hotmail

I'm trying to set up my hotmail email account and it's not really letting me do that. Is this a hotmail thing? Do I just need to go through the browser each time? Thank for the info!

Hotmail doesn't support POP or IMAP so you can't connect to it with this phone without just going to hotmail.com in your browser. It used to be that if you were a paid MSN subscriber you could have them turn on IMAP, but I'm not sure if this is the case anymore.

I was trying to do the same thing. A friend of mine suggested simply having your Hotmail messages auto-forwarded to Gmail. I'm thinking of doing that. Have a rule set up to throw Hotmail stuff in a new folder, you're good to go!

Microsoft added pop support for hotmail and live email accounts and it's free.

I set up both of my hotmail accounts right out the box without a problem. IT should work.

I just went to the mail icon, then top left "email" and went to preferences & accounts scrolled down and entered my email address in "add an account". thats it.

Deihmos is right, I guess I'm half a year behind the times lol. I also just tried setting up my hotmail, it automatically detected all the correct settings and synced without a problem.

This is very strange. How can some people get the settings while others don't get them. The only setting it has is the pop3 server but I have to manually enter the smtp server. It also refuses to connect.

Did you install the update because I did.

yes i had the update installed before i tried setting up hotmail. it pulled pop3.live.com with port 995 and SSL for incoming and smtp.live.com, port 25, use authentication and tls for outgoing. both usernames are the full email address.

I just tried with these settings, and it didn't work. I turned off WiFi, and it worked just fine. Maybe it's something being blocked by my router.

I'm running a test now. Turned WiFi back on and sent a message with Gmail to my Hotmail address. Turned Wifi back on. Waiting to see if I get a notification. Unfortunately with Hotmail, the most often you can set it to sync is 5 minutes.

Test failed. I received the email from Hotmail but couldn't send a reply. I can send if my WiFi is off, not not if it is on. I may have to play with my router settings.
