That's very odd? They are all labeled as if they've been tested with the never mentioned or released 1.3.1. Did Preware get an early release?

Many developers received an early release of 1.3.1 last week so they could test effects on their applications

Awesome. I read through all those. This a nice update. I didn't see video recording, visual voicemail, better camera controls, etc. like everyone's waiting for and that could keep the Pre in the game with the iPhone or the Droid or Hero, but there's a good bit of polish there to make it more user friendly and seamless.

Overall a thumbs up. I just hope by year end we do get the aforementioned...and A LOT MORE APPS.

There are 11 days before Pixi launch yet, and more still making on the way, unless Palm wants to update webos with 1.3.1 before that date.

Another report I read indicated they were also going to concentrate on speed. Will be interesting to see what actually (hopefully soon) comes thru.

I don't get it, isn't this just a list of patches that are already available?

Does this mean that we might get these apps. even if we didn't install pareware, with the update? Hum interesting.

@steves743: Patches don't equate to an OTA software update. For instance, I'm one of the Pre forum frequenters who can't get any homebrew apps nor patches because I don't know how to make all that kind of stuff work. So I'm SOL until Palm catches up with the homebrew community.

nevermind, I see it says "patches" which I assume means that the Pre would have to be hacked to make this work. Complete BULL**** Palm. Make this available for the everyday user already. Quit concentrating on the such mundane things and frickin iTunes synch. Really, the masses want the features that this phone SHOULD have come with.

I've said it once and I still stand behind it, there will always be a need and a place for the homebrew community. Palm will never catch up with the advancements that homebrew brings to the table. Truth be told, they are not even trying to (if they where, half of those patches would have been incorporated already through some of the past OS updates).
Palm supports the homebrew community. If they didn't, they would have made every effort to shut it down (if you believe they wouldn't try, look at the fight they're putting up with Apple!). But they won't, cause homebrew is part of the big picture (i believe). in the meantime, Palm is on different path, they have another agenda. Not sure exactly what it is, but its obvious that it's different from the peoples agenda (hence, homebrew).

Anyway, all this to say, you can wait if you want, but you'll be waiting in vain.

Join the homebrew community and get the most out of your Pre. its Palm approved!

Relying on the homebrew community is a very dumb thing, in my opinion. I love the Pre to death, but I can't recommend it to most people at this point, mainly because the best features that should be on the phone require knowing a bit about computers and installing programs. Honestly, how easy is it to install homebrews, then have to remove them before every OTA update? Most cell phone owners don't have time for that, they want their phone to just work out of the box as they believe it should.

Catering to niche markets when the goal is selling as many units as possible is a recipe for failure. Name one niche product that has viably gotten over for a long time with the public.

There was a time when you needed an IT degree to install homebrew apps, but those days are long gone. Homebrew has come a long way and continues to grow at break-neck speeds. Palm could never keep up. Today, adding Homebrew apps through the many homebrew catalogs (Preware seems to be the most popular) is like adding apps from the Palm catalog.

And there is no need to remove the apps when updating. just like the App store apps they are unaffected by updates. tweaks on the other hand, do need to be removed (at this point) before updating, but that too is a simple process.

Its true that most smartphone users will not take the time to (or care to) understand, and really get the most out of their smartphone. (the same is true with most computer users who only use their computer to surf the internet). This is why Palm is not that concerned, because most people who own a smartphone will, accept the Pre out of the box, as is, and be okay with that (or not). Most will not use half of the features that they already have on the Phone, so to add more is not where Palm's energies lie.

The reality is Palm is NOT catering to a niche market. They are, in fact, making a smartphone for the masses. Catering to the niche is what the Homebrew community does. Trust me Palm is not catering to us.

So, you may think that relying on the homebrew community is dumb, but if you are part of the niche that want more from there Pre, then waiting for Palm to cater to you is more foolish.

If I had the know how and time and ability to use Homebrew then I would do so, but unfortunately that is neither time efficient or possible for me since my computer (which runs Vista) refuses to run the necessary programs. This is why I don't go the Homebrew route. I think that Palm really needs to see the light and support the people that are supporting them, its time for the basic features of this phone to be unlocked and the requested features to be added, and these should come directly from Palm not from the Homebrew crowd (although the efforts are appreciated, don't get me wrong). If this is me holding my breath then so be it but I tell you what, I won't be holding it for long. I want to believe in my Pre, WebOS and Palm but they need to seriously step up to the plate and make it happen already. Enough talk, more walk Palm!
