I like this thread. I have not read all the posts but thought I would offer this TIP in case it is helpful. I sometimes don't want to have text start with a Capital letter (in some fields it defaults to First cap). I have found that if I hit the delete/backspace key right after the cap it reverts to lower case. Big time saver for me. Just tested it with all the auto corrects (dont, mrs etc) and it works like a champ. Pressing delete right after the auto correct undoes the correction. Enjoy your Pre.
Just picked up the Pre and wanted to find out if anyone knows if you can pull up a text message to copy/paste. I get leads text to me and writing each down to type is less than ideal... also for screen captures if you want to not have the browser buttons show, minimize press the orange & shift select the card and hit 'p' quickly before the bottons reshow. (still shows the header though) [Works great for capturing Everythingpre wallpapers] great job to all the contributors!
Just gave it a try and it looks like one way to work around getting the text to a clipboard is the "copy all command" in the menu. Delete the stuff out of the thread that you don't need so that the copy is not too long. You could paste to a contact note and then cut and paste all the parts. :dft003:cool Good luck. It doesn't look like this is changing in the upcoming update either.
Miss the lack of non-destructive movement keys for typing Actually like moving pages this way, but dislike the lack of pinpoint positioning that I used to have with the O-ring. Especially when I want to move the cursor while typing. I used to be able to move up a line and back a character to fix a typo, like you can on a keyboard with the arrow keys. The Pre only offers a backspace key that erases everything as it goes, or I have to use my stubby fingers to try and place the cursor accurately (and fail repeatedly). Any tips for a non-destructive backspace?
Shortcut for USB Mode My screen is frozen and I'd like to copy my pictures from my phone prior to replacing it. I can't connect to a computer in usb mode to copy the files. Is there a keyboard shortcut to choose the USB mode when you plug the phone into the computer? Any other ideas for moving media when the screen is permanently frozen?
tap and hold the message you want to forward and a small menu appears - forward is one of the options...
Sorry everyone for multiple posts on same subject - had some tech issues - just wanted folks to know you can copy, forward, email, etc. Texts with the tap and release method - there were multiple questions about that - but i didn't mean to bother everyone with multiple replies! Thanks for patience - won't happen again!
Forward a text message tap on message you want to forward and when you release the tap you will see a small menu pop up that includes forward, copy, email, etc. Hope this helps.
Broken Touchscreen Help My touchscreen broke, but the phone still worked "fine", but I needed to backup the data before I got my replacement. However, when you connect the USB cable you usually need to choose from the available options using the touchscreen before you can do anything. However, I found the following ways around the limitation of not being able to touch the screen. Connect the USB cable to a powered on phone and wait for the menu to show. To select "Just Charge", simply press the face button. To select "USB Drive" press Orange button + Symbol + U.
