Music to car radio via bluetooth?

I have paired my Pre with my car (2008 bmw 335 xi). I can make and receive phone calls via the car's speaker system, and it all works perfectly.

Should I also be able to listen to the music stored on my Pre via Bluetooth? If so, does anyone know how?

great question! Since I'm in to all of that I'll explain. What you are talking about is recent in consumer electronics. Its a feature called 'A2PD'. Basically its bluetooth in stereo. Your bimmer doesn't feature that. So far in my knowledge only the aftermarket supports this with high end car stereo brands such as Eclipse, Pioneer, & Alpine.

There are different bluetooth profiles. Even though you can connect to your car and have a conversation over bluetooth, you will not be able to listen to music this way. As Remington already pointed out, the OEM systems that come pre-installed in most cars don't support the A2DP profile. My wife has an aftermarket bluetooth kit in her car, and she can stream music to it from my Pre. It's a really handy feature, and I hope we will eventually see it become standard in all car bluetooth systems.

You don't need to spend a lot to get this feature. You can get a Dual head unit from Crutchfield for $160.00 that lets you play music via Bluetooth.

I have a Kenwood 7120 and I listen to AccuRadio all the time using my Pre. If you open Bluetooth after it's paired you'll see the blue phone icon as well as the music note icon. The Pre is willing but your stereo has to have the ability...

I tested it out today with the Microsoft SYNC system in the MKS. Bluetooth streaming worked perfectly, and the sound was crisp and artifact free. I was quite impressed indeed. Since you can rip your whole CD collection to the car's built-in hard drive, there really isn't much of a need to stream your own music via Bluetooth. The feature would come in handy, however, if you wanted to listen to something like Pandora. It's also a convenient way to listen to music on a friend's Pre. :dft010:smile

it works on audi and VW's with RNS or Premium7 sound-touch screen systems.

I drive all day long listening to Pandora to my Kenwood Nav. Radio.
