successfully did the data transfer from Outlook the night I bought the phone and did my first sync yesterday with pocket mirror. Now I have duplicate contact and calendar records. Palm says that only option is to do a partial erase on their server and re-format the phone -- any sage advice out there??

Do you also have the same information in Google? If so, that is why you have duplicates.

To remove the duplicates, you could Delete Calendar and Contact information from Google or simply remove the Google profiles from your Phone Calendar and Contacts.

!! If you delete your Google information, be sure to unload Google Sync from your Desktop first or your Outlook information will be removed as well!!

After you Delete your Google Calendar and gmail Contacts, you can either remove the Google profiles on your Phone or choose to "Sync Now" from your Phone's Calendar and Contacts applications.

What would be a better strategy?

Sync Google and Outlook AND sync Google and the Pre, which leaves out Outlook <->Pre Syncing?

Alternatively, how easy (or problematic) would it be to sync
    Contacts Outlook <->Pre
    Calendar Google<->Pre and Google<->Outlook

This leaves contacts out of Google, which is fine with me.

It actually does not leave out outlook, I have google do a 2 way sync with my outlook, and my pre syncs with my google calendar....

If I am at home I enter it into my outlook, and it will update google calendar, which will update my pre,

if I am not near a computer, I enter it into my pre, and it will sync google and google will sync with my outlook calendar,

if I have neither I use the computer at my work to access google.com/calendar which will sync with my outlook calendar and also my pres calendar...

have entered several appointments into each of the calendars and all have synced to evey calendar... NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.

yeah it sounds like alot of syncing, but it is all automatic, and all flawless. very happy with it and can check my calendar from anywhere......

I do not use pocket mirror to sync my computer outlook with my palm pre because it will have duplicates of every appointment. and I dont want to have to pysically turn on my wifi every day and sync it with my computer. because everything that i stated eirlier happens automatically.

also from what I heard pocket mirror is only free for a short time.

here is the link to sync your google calendar with outlook

Can you sync your new Outlook data (contacts, email) from a laptop that has Vista 64-bit to the Palm Pre, vice versa?? I need to know BEFORE I buy a Palm Pre!

If so, how do you do it? Does Pocket DO this?

I want to know how I can get the outlook calendar that I sync with my Treo 755p to look exactly the same on a pre?

    Bad experience with PocketMirror

Tried my first sync. I had to kill it after 6 hours. It claimed to be syncing over 8,000 items and was just over halfway done (that must be all calendar items + contacts + tasks + notes -- I only have 3K contacts). No error messages.

I know the first sync will take longer than normal, but that's ridiculous! The Pre battery won't even last 6 hours without external power! And at the end of those 6 hours, I expected

I'm also mystified by the pricing -- I don't see a price listed anywhere on their web site.

Finally, I'm not happy that it will only sync over wifi. I can't always get reliable wifi on the road.

I'm going to try CompanionLink next. http://www.companionlink.com/usbsync/ol-pre-usb.html
Anyone used it? Anything else I should try?

I do not want to go the Google sync route. I have confidential info in my contacts and don't want them in the cloud.

That's a heck of a lot of contacts. You must be the most popular person on the planet! :laugh3:
I've been using a different version of CompanionLink since I first got the phone back in June, and I am very happy with it. The version I use is cloud based, and uses a Gmail account as a go between. I am mainly interested in keeping the Pre synced up with my Outlook contacts and calendars, and CompanionLink works well for this. I don't use notes or tasks, so I can't comment on how it would work for those.

I currently use Chapura/Pocket Mirror and have found their tech support to be very quick to answer questions. Give them a try, maybe they'll be able to help.

I did get a quick response from them. But I decided that, since I don't want to depend on finding a wi-fi connection to be able to sync, I'd look for a USB sync method. Given that, it's not worth playing with the PocketMirror sync. I'm evaluating CompanionLink and it's doing the job.

I too don't like the fact that I need to turn on my wifi, press sync and then turn off the wifi. I want my sync to be automatic.

Right now, I'm trying the google sync via gsyncit (http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/). Works great and my calendar/contacts get synced through the "cloud" auto-magically!

    Richard,

I'm also evaluating gsyncit and so far it looks good. The evaluation copy only lets you sync 20 contacts, so I can't really evaluate that part. I saw a few odd results in the calendar sync and am awaiting a reply from tech support, but I'm optimistic. At this point I'm thinking my solution will be gsyncit to sync contacts and calendar (and maybe tasks), and Evernote to sync notes. I also had great results with Google Calendar Sync, but as its name says, it only does one thing. I also tried Go Calendar Sync, but could not get it to work (I'm also awaiting help from tech support there but it doesn't look promising).

I wish there was something like Google Calendar Sync to handle contacts.

    Robert
