i love my pre but, i had a centro that had zero issues, yahoo IM'ing most of my friends use yahoo mail...pre does not support yahoo IM'ing, centro had great reception in my house now my pre is struggling to get one bar and offten goes to roam..i used the GPS for the first time it worked great until it went into roaming...still had signal but it won't allow you to continue use unless your on your own sprint towers...please correct me if i'm wrong or what i could do to change it! many negatives to the pre but i still love it...also world clock...on the centro was brilliant....not on pre it seems...to all the haters of pre realize if your nice going into a best buy to get your pre they'll help you out anyway they can also i paid 139.49 out the door! and i didn't have to wait for rebates...rad love to best buy! but good luck to any other users of phones and companys! when all said and done the pre will be the top contender! Bless!
Click on your "Phone Icon" and then click in the top left corner to get the drop down menu. Select "Preferences" and flick down to see if Data Roaming is enabled. That could be your problem...
Pre Fanboy All The Way I have been a sprint customer for about a year. I have tried all the other carriers and only found comparable service and plans with verizon, but they do not beat sprints plans. I hate ATT and refuse to buy into Apple's proprietary BS and so do not own Apple Products. I started with one of those Hybrid Sprint/Nextel phones and was completely satisfied, but then just had to have an Instinct. I loved that phone except for the keyboards inability to keep up with my crackhead fingers and so sold that to my brother and settled for a Samsung Highnote for it's MP3 player features being that I am a Professional DJ. However, the one thumbed double key punching technique of texting became very annoying and I had to have something with a keyboard before I went nuts. I am a typical man and obsessed with electronic toys and have to feed the addiction constantly with all the new gadgets that come out. The Palm Pre to me was the Holy Grail of uber-dork, gadget crazed, meatheads like me. This phone had all kinds of new and nifty things for me to occupy hours of my day with. So much that my fiance ,who bought it for me for my birthday, hid it from me because she said i was ignoring her and spending all my time on that damn phone. I know this phone is not all that it could be from the gate, but it has potential to be a great phone that will blow the iphone out of the water. That's why they call it beta testing and I am more than happy to wait it out till Palm and all those great Homebrew DEvelopers make it into the Glorious Device I know it can be.
I am considering turning mine in... I haven't figured out how to add attendees to to calendar appointments. Is this coming with 1.2? also, when is 1.2 coming?
To add attendees to a meeting requires you to use either Microsoft Exchange or Google contacts/calendar. I use Google. You can set up the initial meeting on either your pre or the particular service. To add the attendee requires you to open your particular service of choice online. You can do this with either a computer or your Pre (at least with google - not sure on the ME) and go to that services calendar, find the appointment and then add the contacts to that appointment. This can not be done on the Pre's calendar as yet. Has to be done with the service you are using.
Just to throw this opinion out there...I love my pre!! I went from the Centro to the Pre and I am willing to wait on the apps at the end of the month. I'm still learning how to "customize" the phone. The calendar and I have made friends. lol Kudos to this site as well!
Love the phone! Going on my 3rd one. Dont know if its just Palm or me. Havent dropped the phone or anything now no backlight and screen stuck. I may have to pull out the old BB.
I like the phone as well, however the "phone" feature on it has been driving me nuts. This is my second pre and it is doing the same thing that my original phone did. When I hold the phone up to my ear while I'm talking, the proximity sensor will just give out sometime during the conversation. Then my cheek or ear must hit the screen, causing the contact page to appear in a new window. Then my ear hits one of the contact's numbers and all of a sudden I am conferencing in a new call. My only two options at this point are to hang up on both calls, or conference in. There is no way to get rid of one or the other. I don't know if the plastic case I have around it is interferring somehow or not. But seeing as though this is the second phone and it is still doing it, I may have to go back to Blackberry.
I returned it because I got sick of it, and jumped back on the blackberry bandwagon and got the Tour. The battery life was horrible. Lasting just 5 hours wasn't good enough for me while NOT making phone calls, NO Wifi, NO gps, NO bluetooth, and 30 second lock, and lowest brightness level. It just doesn't cut it. I hated the fact that it had no video camera. I know the OS is fairly new and that Palm is making updates but I feel as if they rushed to release the phone because there's absolutely nothing that a basic phone has. There was no text forwarding, and also no text ringtones UNLESS you do the preware, but I don't want to have to do preware.. I just wish the actual developers had come out with that in the first place. I switched out to the Tour because I've had blackberry for over 3 years and am satisfied with the features it has besides the threaded messaging the palm has. (Only thing I miss whatsoever.)
I'm really sick of everyone saying ok i can fix this by adding preware or assware...i'm sick of it Palm should take huge responsibility now that they handed out a **** phone, it has some great areas but for the most part you have to install preware bull**** to get something done right it's not easy to use and figure out unless your a programmer or programmer minded person...my centro never had issues like this and adding and removing things where a breeze Palm better own up to there battery issues, along with all the other issues this thing has fast...HTC hero is fast..to all the people that have played with it side by side know the truth...i unfortunately don't have the money to switch to a new phone every month so i'm stuck with this peice of **** PRE! and lets not talk about the signal.....it was supposed to be alot better than the centro...i have now one bar of service.....and am roaming to get signal most of the time even if i change the settings to sprint only then i get nothing to one bar..or a flash of ev full then down to one bar again////this product was rushed...instinct should have to me never buy something that isn't proven yet, but i stood by Palm because of the pilot i have and the centro i have all great pieces of tech but this PRE is quite worth less than my centro! Palm time to nut up or give people back there money! seriously! and to all you out there saying oh thats not good publicity for Pre or not good ratings for pre and the statistics are going to go down...well good! people are more upset with pre than they are happy!
I can tell you from personal experience that the HTC Hero also has its issues. I went the HTC way, mostly because Visual Voicemail is really the deal breaker for me. When I played with both phones, the Hero and the Pre, the Pre just made sense to me, from the way it laid out to moving around the apps. If it had the vv, I would have not looked back. The HTC is pretty cool, and I am getting used to it and learning new things about it, but it also has a battery issue. At least you guys have the ability to buy an extended battery for yours, I still have not located one for the Hero, and I will be buying one as soon as it comes out. The only reason I am posting is just to say, the grass is not always greener on the other side, it is just a different shade.
I have tried really hard to love this phone, and there are some great things about it. BUT ultimately it suffers from shoddy hardware, lousy support from both Sprint and Palm. I want an iphone.
