Question about june 6th and activation

So if i buy my pre at best buy, will they charge me for an activation fee?

of they do... can i just have them sell me the phone, and then i go home and call in to sprint and have them activate it?

you always have to pay an activation fee unless there's a waived activation fee promo. or the person you're dealing with likes you and has the ability to waive it.

Buying from sprint.com waives the fee, but you'll have to get the rebate.

somehow you've turn into the sites sprint Know it all man/cat avatar person.

So what do you guys think the most compelling argument on june 6th will be to try and get a waived activation fee?

You know the manager of the store...so you get perks.

You don't have to pay an activation fee.

Buy the phone, go home, and call Sprint's customer service line. Tell then you want to swap ESNs and just give them the ESN for the Pre that you bought.

I may drive up to PA and buy the phone from the ManCat! - He'll hook me up...

my customers sometimes call me the sprint guru. i know it's lame but I like it. and yes I will hook you up. sometimes I sacrifice my own commission to get people into phones they otherwise couldn't buy at the time. yesterday I gave a buddy of mine a rant for free.. (normally $50).. oh btw, I work on commission only so for those of you who're thinking "how in the heck does he get $50 for a single line activation?" I'm good at persuasion. and actually it's significantly more than $50.. heheh

The Rant is currently free, if I remember correctly.

not in my store. on sprint.com and maybe corporate it is. we just had a buy one get on free for 29.99 on the rant.

I work at a corporate store and we offering it totally free proactively on new lines, and reactively (they say they heard it was free) for upgrades. Easily the best phone Sprint has offered for free. In fact, I bet about half or more of the people holding out for the Pre would be perfectly happy with the Rant... Of course, if you are reading this I am sure you would actually appreciate the Pre. :)

ahh there's the difference. I run a 3rd party store. our pricing is sometimes different. sometimes better sometimes worse. but i agree the rant is one of the better sprint phones for the price. def. a lot better than the rumor/2 could hope to be lol.

are you saying at BB, when you pay the $199...just tell them you want to activate yourself at home? i didn't think that was allowed.
  15. danbfree New Member

uh, yeah... Let's forget the Rumor was ever made... Then again, as a tech I may still have my job based on that one model alone! LOL
  16. hopper84 New Member

no he's talking about buying the phone outright $549.99. there's no activation fee for putting that on an existing line without signing a 2-year contract.

Will you be able to buy a Pre at BestBuy, etc without activating it?

What about people who don't have an exisiting Sprint account?
  18. hopper84 New Member

anyone can buy any phone outright for the retail price without having it activated. for example the pre is 549.99.. you can buy it for that price, never open it and/or do what you like with it. although if you're planning on doing that, at least wait until the 2nd shipment is in.. please.
  19. SF_Chris New Member

    Yeah, these extra fees suck.
  20. hopper84 New Member

true but if speculation is correct, sprint is paying 300 for each pre from palm and sellign it to us for 200.. so they're taking a hit on each pre sold.. the activation/upgrade fees help assuage that hit. not to mention sprint pays out a good $250-$400 in commission to the stores that activate the lines. so in reality sprint doesn't really make any money on you until you're a good 6-7 months into contract with them. so i say, "hey thanks for kinda hookin me up on that pre..."
