    Seidio Spring-Clip Holster Review

    Hey all,

I was really excited to open my mailbox today and find my Seidio holster waiting for me! I've always preferred holsters for my phones and had a Seidio spring-clip for my previous HTC Mogul and loved it. I'm happy to report that the Pre version is just as high-quality. The rubberized coating is very soft but provides a nice amount of grip and the springs on the belt clip an the spring-clip are STRONG. Here are a few pictures of it :

There is also a small strip of even softer rubber inside the top spring-clip to cushion the back of your phone from the back of the clip to prevent any rubbing damage as well as a soft plush backing to prevent scratches to the screen. The rubberized coating of on the holster, as you can see, perfectly matches the rubberized backing that comes with the Touchstone!

Feel free to post any questions :)

That is a really SHARP looking case. Does it have any type of magnetic screen control installed? Good looking either way.

No magnetic screen control built-in as far as I can tell. The only drawback I see with this case is that the headphone jack is not accessible through the top clip, it totally covers it up. Not a big deal for me, but might be for others.

Thanks for the images, I've been eyeballing this holster. I'm also thinking about getting a skin (phantomskinz vs invisbleshield), do you think it would still fit well in the holster with that extra bit of skin?

Is that the original phone back? It looks like it has a matte finish

It looks like it would be the touchstone charging back for the phone, which is kinda rubbery, easier to hold if you ask me

Swami, I have never heard of a Seido brand, you were saying you like that it is a spring clip.

    1) Are they more durable then other brands of spring clips? ( i tend to stay away from those spring clips specifically if they swivel, I BREAK THEM)

    2) Does it have a good grip to the phone? I just know that when I have used that style of clip before I have hit that release on top and the phone falls out

    thanks for the review BTW

Seidio has been around a very long time and makes very high quality specialized accessories for smartphones. I had a Seidio spring-clip holster for my WinMo phone as well as the 3500mah Seidio extended battery. Both products were spectacular. The spring-clip holster was a year and a half old when I switched to the Pre and the springs in the top clip and the belt clip were as strong as the day it was new (dead serious, not exaggerating!).

I would say yes from my experiences with the clip for my WinMo phone. Before I got the Seidio spring-clip, I had the generic Verizon plastic clip holster which was absolutely awful.. one of those ones where you had to bend the plastic to get the phone in and out. The swivel mechanism on the back of the Seidio holster is very very strong and held up extremely well over the course of a year and a half of daily use. It did not develop any "play" or looseness and still clicked in to every swivel position.

Another thing I will mention is that the plastic of the Seidio holster is much thicker than the plastic found on generic holsters (it's also covered by a layer of rubber so it won't scratch up your phone). It's tough and rugged with a very "grippy" feel.

Yes, the rubber coating gives it a tacky feel that does not slip against your hand or slide around on a table. The spring-clip at the top does not have a traditional release, and instead is spring-loaded. You actually have to apply upward pressure to the top clip and hold it open to get the phone out. No worrying about clicking it open and the phone falling to the ground :) The phone does not come out of the clip without you intending to take it out, it requires a slight bit of concious effort (I like it that way, personally, its very secure in there).

Nope! That's the rubberized back that comes with the Touchstone charger. Much better than the shiny back, IMO. Gives the phone a lot more grip and feels great in the hand.

very nice looking. i want one for in the car, so i know when my phone actually vibrates. it's hard to feel sometimes when i'm wearing looser fitting jeans. but at $25, eh.. I probably will pass. and hope the jawbone i ordered has some kind of notification

    Hey Swami,

First off, thanks for the info & photos - really helpful.

Second, like @Linh, I'm thinking of mounting this in the car. For my purposes I'd want to have the screen facing out so I can use the nav, and would also want to mod the spring clip piece to allow for the 3.5 audio jack to pass through. Based on your picks I think this should be possible. Any advice or suggestions?

Has anyone else seen any comparable holsters that might work better for this?

    Hard Best Buy Case

Just curious I own the hard case that was available at BestBuy, it actually works great and secures the phone. I am waiting for a back-ordered Touchstone, but I never thought about the charging aspect with this plastic case until the recent forum posts. Is it safe to assume that I will not be able to charge with the protective covering?even if its thin and form fitting to the back of the phone?

Word of warning about these spring clip cases. Don't use them if you're going to be in a heavy work or machinery area. Used one with my treo 700p and work in a distribution center with lots of machines and activity. It would bump something and fall out pretty easily so ended up switching to a normal hard case.

Hi briznad..I'll betcha you could do that with a dremel! :) Which I just might do! I got mine in the mail this past Monday!

    have the seidio holster too

I am a doc, need quick access to my phone. first i got the plastic holster that came with opening day, june 6th. didnt like it, cos it was big, bulky, and had an irritating clip on top. then I returned it for the leather case. i liked that, looked classy, but problem was that everytime the phone rang, i would have to flip open the leather top, get out the cellphone and answer. so returned that too.

im now quite happy with the seidio holster. its made of nice rubberized plastic, thin form factor, no scratches with the top clip, slips in and out easily but stays in place firmly, and i can answer calls , get to the phone much quicker. i also can rotate it around the clip.

I tried the bestbuy plastic case for my wife, as she has a palm pre and is much clumsier than me, has scratched it up by dropping it. i didnt like it, and it doesnt work with the touchstone charger. for now, she keeps it in the leather case that comes with the palm pre.

So I ordered one of these, thanks to the great pictures... 1 question..

Will it make marks on my bare Pre over time or are there some sort of pads on the thing where contact occurs?
  18. Reload006 New Member

No scratches anywhere even after several weeks of use. Its made of some hard rubberm so doesn't scratch

    Thanks Reload...needed that reassurance.
