    Sprint Stock

I have noticed a lot of talk about how many Pres specific Best Buy stores will be carrying, however I haven't seen any talk about how much stock Sprint stores will have. Can someone please point me in the direction of where that thread might be? If it doesn't exist, perhaps we can begin discussion here.

Well, there was a 150,000 unit number floating around (I also read 450,000), but I wasn't sure of the distribution between Sprint stores, Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc. So for purposes of an educated guess, let's assume the following:

    1. 150,000 units to Sprint stores
    2. Say there are 3,000 Sprint stores (I don't recall the exact number)
    150,000 / 3,000 = about 50 per store

So, given that example, and assuming it's accurate, you can expect stock of 50 per store. But don't quote this as accurate, just a general idea of the numbers we're looking at. Since we don't know what the actual stock distribution is per store selling the Pre, we won't be able to come up with an exact number.

We must also remember to factor in the units going to Best Buy and Radio Shack.

The number of Pre phones quoted as going to Best Buy is apx 4300. gestimating 3000 to Radio Shack I come up with 47-48 phones per Sprint store.

The rumor (yay! more speculation-based speculation!) is that not every Radio Shack will carry the Pre at launch, and those that do will carry only a couple, as in about 2. Out of 150,000 I think that Radio Shack's share is insignificant and may be considered noise. If we assume Best Buy to carry 5 at each of their Mobile sites, then 5*1050 = 5250, about 4% of the total shipment: also noise.

For lack of anything more concrete, go with waylon's number of 50 per store; just be sure to get in line 7.3 minutes earlier than you expected.

    Best,
    .

I still have a feeling that this "shortage" is a lot of hype by Palm. Just like when you go to a gamestore and they try to get you to pre-order to "make sure you get your copy" when they know they are getting sh*t loads.

Now i dont think that there are going to be sh*t loads, but Palm might be giving itself more credit. Saying that supply might not meet demand.

The only people that I know that want this... are the people online.

LOL they just pulled that crap with me at Gamestop telling me Ghostbusters is going to sell out and I better pre-order... funny, I didn't even ASK about it.. I'd gone in to buy a Wii remote.

I think they definitely want a storage to happen to add to the hype. People will be saying the demand is crazy, just like the Wii.

The difference is that the Wii had all the hype in the world going into the release. Sprint and Palm have been so caddywompus about everything, you'd think we were in the prohibition era for smartphones.

FYI, there are 1,220 Ready Now Stores. I found this in a Newspaper article from 2008. The Ready Now stores are corporate owned stores and will be the only stores authorized to sell at launch. There is rumored to be 150,000 Pre's to go around at launch. With Best Buy and Radio Shack getting around 7,000 Pre's. This leave's around 81 Pre's per store. If you take into account the Premier Parties and Business Pre-orders. I would venture to say there would be at least 60-75 Pre's per store. This is as educated a guess as I could come up with. Remember no Telesales or online orders for launch day.

Well I got to play with a Palm Pre yesterday and my local Ready Now Sprint store. The store owner is an advocate and he let me check his phone out for a bit, I'll get back to that part in a sec.

He also told me that his store was ONLY getting 20 Pre for the June 6 launch, mind you their a corporate store too. This goes with the info I got from my local Best Buy where their ONLY getting 5-10 Pre...

Now back to the Pre, I personally think it going to be a great phone for Sprint. I am currently using an Instinct and I have to say THANK GOD for the Pre!!! I know BGR did his report and as far as the keyboard goes I think he was completely wrong, I have big hands and I still found the keyboard very easy to use without mistyping. The Pre was very compact and easy to hold with slider open or closed. I agree it was *plasticky* but it was very light compared to an iPhone, I didn't notice any sharp edges it sort of reminded me of my daughter's Touch Pro just not as heavy. I compared a YouTube video on my Instinct and on the Pre and lets just say I wanted to leave my Instinct in the trash can by the counter. The camera also made my Instinct look pretty lame, the media app worked fine on his Pre (maybe BGR got a pre-production). The gesture thing was actually pretty cool, it will take some getting used to. Overall I thought the Pre was very fast no matter what you were doing or had open, when I flicked the screen it switched flawlessly every time. Websites loaded slighty faster then on my Instinct, but the full HTML was much better.

    I can't wait till June 6 !!!

How are you getting 81 per store?

150,000 units - 7,000 units to BB, RS, etc. = 143,000 available to Ready Now stores

    143,000 / 1,220 = ~117 units per store

I have heard that some sprint stores could get as high as 20 units per store.
