    Stupid Palm Pre Case Designs?

So, the more reviews I'm seeing, the more I'm thinking I'm going to buy this, assuming they get ANY in my area. So, on that note I started looking for screen protection and came across cases.

Now to the retarded part...just about all the cases I saw had a wrap around front part which covered the entire area at the bottom of the pre, from the screen down.

How is this retarded? Since the bottom part of the pre, below the screen is capacitive, how will anyone use it if all these cases are blocking it?

I would like to try this just for the back piece alone. I like the rubber idea and hope that it will help in providing more grip so I'll be less likely to drop it. However, I am concerned about the picture that shows the gesture area covered.

    Has anyone else tried this?

I'd like to see some sort of silicon design. Similar to what there is for ipods and the like. Preferrably that has the holes cut out on the side for the different buttons. The Palm rep at the Sprint store that I got my Pre at told me that they had shied away from cases that entirely enclosed the phone because of the number of buttons and holes around it that needed to be accessible.

    ^^^That said...

I can't see any logical case covering the top, sliding part of the phone (maybe I'm wrong).

I just held up card stock in front of my gesture area, and I was still able to gesture. I held it tightly to it as I would imagine this case would do. I think this would actually work. Anyone with money to burn care to order this and let us know?

I just held up a credit card to the gesture area...which I think might more closely approximate the density of most of these plastic and foam cases and no recognition.

I just held a folded thick sheet of paper on top of the gesture area. It oddly enough worked o_0. I wasn't even pressing on the paper hard.

However the plastic card didn't work.

Ok, just received the pink case from Amazon. There are 2 problems:
    1) The gesture area is covered and does not work
    2) When answering a call, the screen goes black, however when you want to interrupt the call and use the screen, it does not come back to life. Something seems to keep it in the black, can't use it, can't disconnect the call.
So far the seller is responsive to my inquiries so we'll see what happens. Don't buy this.

I have a clear plastic case with all the issues mentioned. Seems to me the reason the screen goes black is because the case--even though clear--covers the proximity sensor, which I've determined is directly to the right of the earpiece when facing the Pre. This does make the device unusable after making or receiving a call. Until I find a better case, I've been using just the rear attachment part of the case since it grips the phone separately from the front attachment. Plus I have a screen protector on the front. This has worked so far, but still looking.

    Modded Case

I was talked into a case when I got my Pre........... Same issues... After calling the store and giving them an earfull.. I took my Dremal to it and opened the ear hole and gesture area, Uncovering both..... Looks like shizbot but the phone is better protected.....

    Case Issues

Yes, thanks for locating the problem. The case will be returned. Anyway, just bought a case at Best Buy, $19.95 so more expensive than the ones you find on Amazon, but it works very well. The front cover takes up the minimal amount of space around the phone. So no issues.
