Sync Outlook to Pre via Google at Launch…

We told you way way back in January that there would be a solution to sync your Palm Desktop, Outlook, and other PIM data from the desktop to your Pre via CompanionLink. Now the company, a provider of synchronization solutions, hasannounced today that they are guaranteeing that standalone Microsoft Outlook users will have a two-way sync solution available when the Palm Pre launches.
The method: Outlook to Google, Google to the Pre. CompanionLink for Google ($29.95) offers a two-way sync solution between Microsoft Outlook and Google, which lets users seamlessly sync their contacts, calendar and tasks to Google.

Gayland Bruns, CEO of CompanionLink Software, noted that during CTIA, the Palm Pre product manager, Tim Pettitt, was demoing the Palm Pre Calendar application and discussing its sync capabilities to Google during CTIA 2009.
    Bruns remarked:
“Since CompanionLink already supports Outlook to Google sync, it means Synergy/Outlook users will have the ability to get their desktop contacts and calendar information on their Palm Pre phones on the same day that the Palm Pre launches."
    How it works
CompanionLink for Google will sync contacts, calendar and tasks data between desktop software (like Microsoft Outlook) and your Google account, or directly with your phone. Two-way sync ensures your data is synchronized regardless of whether you update it in Outlook, Google or on your phone.

Use CompanionLink together with the free Google Sync (Beta) service that Google offers and get a complete over-the-air sync solution between Outlook, Google and your phone. Our sync Timer feature allows the sync to run transparently in the background without any user intervention.

    Data we sync
    • Contacts (including address fields!)
    • Calendar events
    • Event details and notes
    • Recurring events
    • Multiple calendars
    • Shared and public Google calendars
    • Reminders (works with your phone's audible alerts)
    • MS Outlook tasks
    • More information is available at www. companionlink.com/google.

    Taken from:
    http://www.palmaddict.typepad.com/

Palm has separately announced their Palm Synergy technology will link the Palm Pre phone to Google Contacts and Calendar services.

CompanionLink's solution will guarantee that standalone Microsoft Outlook users also have a two-way sync solution available.

While Palm has offered a solution to link Microsoft Exchange with the Palm Pre, (FREE)

Wait I thought the Pre is going to have exchange? Wont it just sync with my works Outlook account without going through Google?
  5. bdot1276 New Member

It will work with exchange also, this helps for those that have desktop organizer software (Outlook, Outlook express, Palm Desktop, etc.)

If you use Outlook and Exchange at work it will sync with that. If you use Outlook without an Exchange Server then it will not and you will need to use the methods mentioned above. If you do not know if you have an Exchange server you should ask your IT.

I love that my college has exchange. It's so nice. No Google tinkering for me!

I will wait Pre first to know how to sync with what it comes. After that I´ll see if it necessary to go for another option.

Pre synch with Outlook thru an Exchange server

Just so I am clear here. I read below that if my employere has an Exchange Server, then I should be able to sync email, tasks, contacts & calender over the air through the Exchange server. (same as I do on my Treo 700w)

That would be good but on my Treo 700w I am unable to sync Outlook Notes thru the Exchange server and must use Chapura Pocket Mirror Professional. What do you think will happen with Outlook Notes on the Pre?

I understand that for the Pre; Data Viz has announced that they will offer synchnronization of Word, Excel, Power Point files. How will I be able to view & edit those files if the Pre does not have windows or MS Office apps on board? Does the Data VIz file sync application also allow me to view & edit files on the Pre?

This one situation I would like to clearly understand
I have a Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 with Office 2007 SP2 that comes with Outlook 2007 , ok.

These big software package include or not a simple way to sync with Outlook using Palm Pre to my PC?

Because with Palm Os you have 2 options Outlook and Palm desktop No problems with these two options, right.

In a simple answer ( not an essay and this it not for you) , if you don´t mind please would you answer, Yes or would you give us a simple solution.

Sorry I am just a simple MBA not a computer tech.
    Thanks
