Sync your PC and Palm Pre with a USB cable

    http://www.companionlink.com/usbsync/index.html

    How it works
On your Pre: Install CL USB Sync™ which is a free app from the Palm® App Catalog. This app has three components: 1) A sync system to start and complete synchronization, 2) Task app a with sortable list and categories, and 3) Memo app with a sortable list and categories. The Task and Memo apps that we provide are separate from the Tasks and Memos apps that come with the device. Ours provides features similar to the Palm OS versions of those apps.

On your PC: Download and install CompanionLink for webOS USB™ (CLW). Click here to download.

CompanionLink for webOS USB is available as a 14-day evaluation software. If you have previously purchased any product from CompanionLink, we will automatically provide you with a license for CLW for no additional charge. If you have tried any CompanionLink evaluation product in the past and DID NOT buy or register the software, download CLW and then use this link to get a demo extension code for an additional 14 days (extension codes are mailed during business hours).

    How to Sync:

    1. On the Pre, launch CL USB Sync, and tap the “Sync” button. This will gather the data for the USB connection.

    2. When this completes, connect your Pre to the PC and tap the “USB Drive” option.

    3. On the PC, launch and run CompanionLink to complete the synchronization. Any changed data from the PC may require you run CL USB Sync on the Pre after disconnecting the cable.

Does it back up the memo's? I need them to be tied with the contacts or whatever that dialog box is asking. I just want all of my memos as I write them on rooftops usually with model and serial numbers of HVAC units I'm working on. I already downloaded the program 2 days ago and I'm hoping your answer is affirmative on the memos as I can see it's backing up my contacts just fine allowing me to lose Sprint/Palms online solution out on a cloud.

    Thanks... G..

YOU CAN SYNC MEMOS WITH THE FULL VERSION
Pls read the notes of COMPANION LINK:
    http://www.companionlink.com/usbsync/index.html

    Notes:
CompanionLink Express and CompanionLink Professional can also synchronize using USB to webOS devices. The least expensive option is CompanionLink for webOS USB (CLW, in short form) for $39.95. This is a free upgrade if you’ve previously purchased CompanionLink for Google.

The Task and Memo apps supplied in CL USB Sync only synchronize using CLW. They do not support Palm Synergy®, and at this time cannot be synchronized wirelessly to Google®, Exchange ActiveSync®, or any other method.

CompanionLink has not tested for any webOS devices except Palm Pre. The design of this product is in compliance with Mojo SDK, and we anticipate this sync will work with all webOS devices.

CLW supports all versions of Palm Desktop, all versions of Microsoft® Outlook®, GroupWise® 6.5.3 and higher, and Lotus Notes® 4.6.7 and higher. For more information, select your PC application icon below.

CompanionLink is Microsoft Windows software and does not currently support data stored using Mac OS X®.

    Akitayo,

So all that you're saying here is that when I buy it that is the full version or is the one on the Palm App store a limited version? I don't care about synchronizing to Google. Just my desktop. Is there a better version that will also backup your apps?

    Thanks...

I am not making commercials ,but yes you have to upgrade the free version to a full version in order to get your memos synced

I guess I wasn't aware that the 15 day trial was a crippled version. I just wanted to make sure that when I paid for it that it was capable of backing up memos. When you mentioned I'd have to pay for an even higher end product I started to have doubts.. G..

Just synced my Lotus Notes calendar to my Pre with the Companionlink USB connection!! Anyone else interested, it works great! It didn't work out of the box, but the wonderful Companionlink support sent me a patch and now I'm happy. Instructions provided above are correct. Click on sync on the free download app on the Pre, then connect as USB device, then click on sync on the desktop (the one you pay $29.95 for, and after proper setup, of course), then disconnect the Pre and click on Sync again on the Pree app. Presto, Lotus Notes calendar items in your Pre calendar without exposing them to the cloud!

Just out of curiosity, where does it store your memo's on your desktop? Can they be accessed if your phone is destroyed and you don't have your new one yet?

    Thanks... G..

Any answers on this? This is my number one reason for buying this software. I write model numbers down all day long off of rooftop HVAC units and want to know about the "memo's" back up?

    "Akitayo"... ???

    Thanks.. G..

Well... Truth is that it does not back up memos from the Palm memos application.

That was such a simple question...

You have to open up CompanionLink, find the drop down menu and use their memos which are not even slightly easy to get to like the Palms. If they could get their application to load and act like Palms that would be well worth it and make the product bulletproof to me.

The backup of the contacts is flawless that I could see allowing you to back up either from the phone to the computer or vice versa as well as allowing you to update each side with the other sides latest information. You do have to tell CompanionLink to sync from the phone before you sync from the computer and then all of your latest contacts are there.

Their support is really good and they quickly answered my questions and they didn't bat an eye when asked about the memos. I really felt left in the dark asking the questions here. It is well worth getting for the contacts list only. If they could catch up with the memos' they'd have a really great product. Their support might be worth the $39 all by itself that they were asking. Before the phone call I was thinking it was worth closer to $25. Good support people probably like being paid well and they should.
