Tethering Question Hey Everyone, A few days ago I posted on the Homebrew Thread Forum about Tethering, and noone ended up replying. So, i'm trying my luck here because you all have been extremely helpful ever since I joined. I am trying to tether my husbands phone to a laptop so he can take with him, but I am not really sure what things I need to DL. Is there an app I need? Please help :dft002:eys_open Thanks in advance!!
A number of people use mytether and are very satisfied. http://forum.mytether.net/index.php Frank Hamilton
$10 donation to the developer. Some are so appreciative that they give more. One really neat feature is wireless tethering. Unfortunately, I cannot use it since I have a Lenovo laptop and it has its own wireless control which will not work with mytether. Also, my laptop has had Bluetooth disabled, so I can't use that, either. Frank Hamilton
I have a Lenova T60 with built in WiFi and it works just fine. I have the donation version of MY Tether and it really flies. I almost cannot tell the difference between my home AT&T DSL and it. (Big surprise huh??) :dft005:frazzled Hope that helps... G..
Does your Lenovo use Thinkvantage Access Connections to control wireless connections? Thank you. Frank Hamilton
I blew off everything to hop on the Windows 7 bandwagon. I also swapped out the hard drive and put a solid state hard drive from Crucial Technologies. It found every driver including the fingerprint software and I think I went to Lenovo's site once for one thing it missed. Hope that helps... G..
I understand what you said, but not if you are still using Lenovo's Thinkvantage Access Connections to access wireless. Thanks, Frank Hamilton
That's what I was kind of telling you. Since I blew everything off I'm assuming that Thinkvantage Connections would be something you'd have to work at getting. I didn't add a single piece of hardware to it so I'm assuming Windows 7 just sees the 11a/b/g/m Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter and uses it. Not sure that I would want to go to Lenovo's site and get that from what you're saying when this works perfectly. I'm curious though and will go there just to see what ThinkVantage screws up that I don't want. I'm looking at my Device Manager list as I type and everything has a driver and all is happy. Looking at the drivers despite having the screen looking absolutely wonderful it is a Microsoft default driver and not anything from Lenovo. I did go to their website and probably will buy a 3 year next day warranty for $119 though. I saw all of the ThinkVantage drivers and I guess Windows 7 has their own ship. In fact a friend of mine has a Lenovo tablet and he couldn't believe how well Windows 7 identified every component and loaded drivers for everything. If you can afford it the Pre definitely tethers to it. If you have any specific questions about what drivers it is using and who's the company behind them just send me a message and I'll help as much as I can... G..
I understand what you're saying. Since my Lenovo is a company laptop, I cannot change it from the standard corporate load. ThinkVantage wants to set it up as an adhoc wireless network, and MyTether does not support adhoc. Thank you for your information, though. Frank Hamilton
Im having an issue installing My Tether. After I type in novacom -t open tty:// the command prompt says that novacom is not recognized as an inter or exter command, operable program, or batch file. what gives?
so do you DL this to ur comp or phone? I have a gatewat netbook, I have an 'atheros ar5b95 wifi adapter on it.
