    Wrong!

Sorry, but your very wrong i just purchased a PALM 'not sprint' car charger and it puts out a full 1 amp just like the wall charger. so the best solution would be to use the PALM car chager and then you want have to modify the sprint one! And i tried it plugged to my touchstone running every app i have and it charges just fine. so please make sure you got your info correct before you post and give everyone the wrong info!

You are correct. I was about to say the same thing. Both the Palm Car Charger and the Palm Home Charger put out 1.0 amps. Says it clearly on each item.

I tried the Touchstone in my car and it works. Charges fine EXCEPT for whenever I do anything that pertains to the lights on my car. Press the brakes, turn on headlights, use turn signals. The instant I do any of that or anything else that uses a headlight/tail-light, the charger disconnects and reconnects immediately...

I tried a different aftermarket charger that i shaved down and connected to the Touchstone and got similar results as others who said it just keeps disconnecting and reconnecting...

I took an el cheapo vent mount cradle and noticed the back was the same size as the touchstone. I disassembled it and with some trim tape, and a little RTV to seal it up, I created a nice mount that will slide onto any standard dash/vent mount (my XM always came with one). I used the Sprint charger and it works great. It's easily viewable from my seat, and I can even use it while it's charging. I put it on the wife's mount in her truck as well - no issues with it falling off.

Hi; I originally posted the how-to-guide regarding getting the Touchstone to work in the car. I have had a problem. About 2-3 days ago, I noticed the sprint car charger for the palm pre wouldnt charge my Pre. At home also, when i plugged my touchstone into the wall outlet adapter, it will not charge my palm pre. It seems like the touchstone and the palm pre (sprint) car charger are completely dead. I tried the sprint car charger in my other car, but still wouldnt light up (charge my pre) . I tried connecting the touchstone to another pre wall outlet and cord but still it doesnt work.

My other touchstone (the one i leave at home and dont take in the car) works just fine.

I did drive around a rental VW Jetta 09, and have had this problem about a week after when i plugged into it. Wondering if the jettas circuitry somehow f`d up things ? Didnt have problems when i was driving my 07 camry.

Also about a day or two before this happened, i dropped my touchstone pretty hard when getting out of the car in the garage. But it worked ok that day when i plugged it in. No rattling sound on me shaking it.

The contacts in the back of my pre`s touchstone case also seem fine. Ive ordered another touchstone, and will buy another charger (probably the palm one based on reviews here)

Anyone else have such issues ?

I had a discount card to BestBuy so went to get a Palm Car charger . They listed it at $29.99 but had the old Skew number on the Display tag. The entire stock on that hanger was the newer Skew number and it rang up as that at $29.99.

It's working great as of now in my Uplander and we will see this weekend if any of the Jeeps have any effect on it.

I do have to say I really like how small it is and make changing from car to car very easy.

Oh and as far as mounts go I'm have the Pre stuck on a HockeyPuck and have that in the Cup Holder . It's rock solid and just at the correct angle for use in the uplander. I made a bracket to use with one jeep (Patriot) and will use another hockeypuck with the Grand.

Palm vs. Sprint charger was not the issue for me

It may depend on the "juice" that your car power outlet puts out. I got the Palm brand car charger kit and hooked it up to the Touchstone. I tried it in my auxiliary charger spot in my 2002 Rav4 and it didn't work there. The Pre kept making the "ding" noise when it gets connected to begin charging... but it never started charging--just a repeated *annoying* ding. :dft007:angry

I had read on this forum that the issue was with the Palm car charger and to get the Sprint charger instead...but before changing my charger I decided to try it out in my other car. To my surprise (and delight) when I used the Palm charger and the Touchstone on my 2005 Mini Cooper it worked perfectly!

    Hope it works for you.!

    must use sprint charger

With the palm brand charger, charging would cut out intermittently such when I'd brake and use the turn signals. Tried a cheap chinese ebay "high current" charger and the plug came apart when I attempted to trim it to fit the touchstone. A high current gomadic charger didn't work at all. The sprint brand charger works perfectly. I run it off the switched ignition going to the car stereo. Put in a 15000uf capacator just for good measure. Using the anycom bluetooth receiver which sounds good enough. Using a sony BT on my home stereo and it is horrible with a s/n like am radio.

Don't use the palm 12v adapter. It doesn't work reliably.

Use the sprint brand 12v adapter if you don't want troubles. I tried about 5 other chargers first even some so called "high current" chargers first. Only the palm worked and it cut out any time I hit the brakes or used the turn signals.

The sprint charger needs to be trimmed a bit to fit in the touchstone. Just use a razor or sharp knife to take it down a little.

Update: the anycom bluetooth interface is garbage. It had to be re-paired with every powerup, but more troublesome was that it would frequently lockup and have to be power cycled ( and since it was wired in, it meant having to pull over, kill engine, count to 30) before it could be used. RMA'd it and replacement wasn't much better. It would work for anywhere between 1 minute and 40 minutes before the next lockup; going to the next song on radiotime/pandora/slacker would often lock it up.

Replaced with a clarion handsfree kit and it works well enough at 1/2 the price of a parrot bluetooth.
