I wondered about that amp issue too since I have a motorola charger but the same thing can happen with my usb cable supplied by palm. The port and touchstone can't both be bad. It seems to be a hardware initialization process bug and since its a linux device I am guessing the module built into the kernel fails to load properly due to some conflict or just plain ol buggyness. Kinda similar to how you could plugin and unplug a usb device on a ubuntu or redhat system over and over and some percentage of the time you'd get it to fail to recognize it when uhci or whatever failed to load.

The charger output for the Pre needs to be 1 amp or 1000ma. Some generic chargers on the market only produce 800ma.

That still does not explain why some that are using the correct power are having issues. I have had a few times where the touchstone charged the phone very fast and others where it seemed to take forever.

I bought my Touchstone Monday, from the EverythingPre Store, and got it yesterday. Worked like a charm for ONE CHARGE, then I can't get it to charge at all. At first, I thought it was because I'd charged it to 100%, so I just went about my night and put the Pre down on it when I went to bed.... woke up this morning to a dead Pre. I hate this. I have tried EVERYTHING I could think of, and everything I've read on these posts so far and it's not helped at all. I'm just frustrated because I spent $60 for ONE charge, not even one day of charges...

What would you guys suggest? Go to the Sprint store?

my pre does the same thing. flickers, no actual charging. very frustrating. the touchstone is such a good idea, but it kind of needs to charge my phone. otherwise its a pricey paper weight.

so far palm has done nothing but hang up on me, and the online retailer says to ship it back at my expense.

think a sprint store will help me out still?

    yea

I bought my first touchstone last fall. I had similar problems except mine just never seem to keep a good connection. I gave up on the damn thing for months, until a week ago I bought another one and this one is working fine. Might be the dock that is not good. My new one seems to be working fine.

Checking the contacts on the phone..

While I cannot speak to others issues with the Touchstone, I can recommend what fixed it for me. Take a very close look at your contacts on the phone where the backplate and the phone should connect. One of my contacts was bent in and all it took was bending it up 2mm and it worked quite nicely after that.
    Cheers!

    my touchstone learning

when i first got my touchstone, i figured that the rubbery side must be for the phone contact, to keep it from scratching the phone. WRONG! once i figured out that the chrome palm logo is up, it works great. also, i place my phone on the touchstone with the blinking button about over the palm logo on the touchstone and gently slide it downwards. you can feel the magnets grab and let go, and then grab again. the second grab is where i stop, and i hear the ta-da and see the phone charging message.
i love this thing, just bought another for work.
