    Verizon Palm Pixi Affect Verizon Palm Pre Sales?

    Ok, so the upcoming Verizon Palm Pixi will have WiFi. This was a big reason why people opt for the Palm Pre over the Palm Pixi. If Verizon announces the Palm Pre (and presumably the Palm Pixi), does that make sense? Is there enough differentiation for these two phones to co-exist? Discuss...

    I don't think there is enough difference. One of the main reasons, I thought Palm needed to outsource to a big name manufacture to make the next WebOS device to follow the Pre. The Pixi will compete very well against other phones with the same form factor, like Blackberry's, etc...B

    Although WebOS is great, I really think it wont take off until a custome UI is made for by HTC, Samsumg, etc...Sameway with Android. Nobody thought the original version of Android was hot to look at. It really didnt catch on until the big names started making the custom UI's.

    IMHO Youngsters will keep as their first smartphone experience with smooth webos navigation,without wi fi and for adults that really needs a device for a daily life use would need wi fi , but the differences in this still world recesion are in the final tariffs. Will see how the consumers in the market, reacts to this new wi fi option in Pixi.

    I think it will, based on price alone. I mean the forum factor on the Pixi is (IMO) terrific. Given the problem with build quality on the Pre, I think the casual consumer would pick the Pixi.

    I tell, ya, I'm a little upset that Sprint didn't put on it (wifi) on the Pixi.. Seeing it on the big red version makes me see, well, red. :mad:

    I think Sprint made a mistake there too. I think the Pixi would be considered more of a "Treo Replacement" with Wi-Fi. without it, alot of Treo fans will end up getting a Blackberry

    I doubt it and if they do it will be expensive.

    I'll treat this as a rumor until we see an actual unit with wi-fi. The FCC does make some mistakes on their postings, they made on over the weekend on the google phone as an example.

    I don't think wi-fi is a big seller. I know quite a few people that have wi-fi on the phone that don't bother with it.
    It makes since from the carriers viewpoint to MAKE it an issue and it cuts sown on their bandwidth if customers use it.

    In someway it may cut into Pre sales from "uninformed" buyers.
    There not in the same category. The larger screen, the faster CPU. Videos I encoded for the Pre won't play on the Pixi.

    We have a Treo Pro vs Centro thing going.

    Oh and VZ might just allow tethering, Don't they allow it with the Droid for a small extra fee? (;

    I completely agree. The form factor of the Pixi might be it's best feature. It's real small, but yet feels full featured compared to "feature phones". I prefer the Pixi's keyboard to the Pre. The Pixi feels great --- and that will win over a lot of customers. I guess they could bump up the memory on the Pre -- make it 16GB. That would help differentiate.
