WebOS -Touchstone...future dreams I've been thinking a bit on the evolution of cell phones from the brick of the past to what we're getting into now and had a few ideas of things I hope to see soon ( < 5 years). I believe fairly soon there will be enough processing power at a small enough form factor to basically make a netbook or even more powerful in the form factor of a cell phone (especially running linux distro's, or webOS, android) If palm really nails WebOS and allows for it to expand into a more robust OS then I think they'll kill. The next step is once you have that power in the palm of your hand, I'd love to be able to replace my computer/laptop..just get rid of it. Taking options like touchstone charging, and newer bluetooth technologies that should enable wireless video streaming you could easily have a system thats comfortable to use a primary computing system. Imagine getting to work placing your phone on a "touchstone" or similar wireless charging device, bluetooth connecting to your 24'' monitor, keyboard and mouse and getting your business done. Then when its time to go home go to your same set up at home. Go to a coffee bar...and rather than free wifi (since 4G is fast enough) they offer free use of their monitors/keyboards/touchstone... Time to travel..rather than buying a netbook or laptop that has all its own parts..just a simple shell with a screen, battery, keyboard..and your ready to travel if necessary. With just a couple more doublings if processing power on the tiny processors, ram, great OS,...and we could have this happen fairly soon. At least where else can the phone evolve too. And, I hope if the palm pre and WebOS are as sweet at they look and palm is looking towards its long term future than they're thinking along similar lines. -just a dream for now
Honestly, I think what you're describing is part of what Hawkins' vision for future iterations of the Foleo was.
It seems that as technology evolves, we tend to make things smaller and more "all-in-one." So this is definitely a possible scenario for the future.
