- Palm Pre and Sprint SERO Plan
Sprint has confirmed that existing SERO customers looking to get the Palm Pre will be required to change their plans. The Palm Pre will require an "everything" plan.
SERO plans are short for Sprint Employee Referral Offer.
Sprint "Everything" plans start at $69.99.
- When is the release date of the Palm Pre?
Palm and Sprint have announced that Palm Pre will be release on June 6th. It will be priced at $199.99 after a 2-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate. The Palm Pre will also be available on June 5th for Sprint Premier customers.
In addition to Sprint stores, the Palm Pre will also be available for purchase from Best Buy, Radio Shack and select Walmart stores.
- Can I purchase the Palm Pre from Best Buy?
Yes, the Palm Pre will be available for sale from Best Buy. In fact, Best Buy plans to offer a $100 instant rebate, in contrast to Sprint's mail-in rebate. The out-of-pocket cost for a Palm Pre is $199.99 after the instant rebate. This price does require a 2-year contract.
- Does the Palm Pre support Visual Voicemail?
Palm has confirmed via Twitter that the Palm Pre does not support visual voicemail. It is possible that this feature might be found in a future revision of webOS or perhaps when Palm releases the Pre or Palm eOS on ATT, but it will not be available on Sprint's Palm Pre.
- Does the Palm Pre have GPS?
Yes, the Palm Pre includes support for GPS. Sprint is expected to include Sprint Navigation on the Palm Pre. Sprint Navigation is a "sprint branded" version of TeleNav.

Yes, the Palm Pre includes GPS support and will offer turn by turn driving directions using Sprint Navigation. You will need a Sprint plan that includes Navigation.

The Palm Pre has 8GB of user storage (~7.4GB user available). The Pre has USB mass storage support. Essentially, you'll be able to drag and drop files from your desktop directly to the Pre.

- Does the Palm Pre sync with Outlook?
Palm has not indicated whether the Pre will sync with desktop applications such as Outlook. The Palm Pre is a web centric device that will sync with Facebook, Gmail and others.

When the Palm Pre initially showed up on Sprint's website, support for tethering was listed. This was removed shortly after, so it's unclear if tethering support will be available when the Pre is released.

The Palm Pre was designed by Palm in California. Chi Mei Communications Systems, Inc. (CMCS) is handling the assembling of the Palm Pre.

Yes, the Palm Pre has built-in support for A2DP Bluetooth profiles. It will work with stereo Bluetooth headsets.

Yes, the Palm Pre supports multimedia messaging service or MMS.
- Does the Palm Pre have a standard headphone jack?
Yes, the Palm Pre uses a 3.5mm headphone jack. You can use any standard pair of headphones with the Palm Pre.
- What is the battery life should I expect from the Palm Pre?
Palm has not disclosed battery life estimates for the Palm Pre. With any smartphone, battery life will be highly dependant upon usage profiles. In a recent conference call with investors, Palm's CEO Ed Colligan indicated the company tests all types of usage patterns and expects the Pre to have "great battery life".
- Will extended batteries be available for the Palm Pre?
It's quite likely that third party manufacturers such as Seidio will release an extended battery for the Palm Pre. Given the design of the Pre, it would also require they design a new backplate for the Pre. In the past, Seidio has developed this for a number of Palm smartphones, so one would suspect they would design one for the Palm Pre. This would also depend on demand based upon battery life of the OEM battery.
- Does the Palm Pre have a removable battery?
Yes, the Palm Pre has a removable battery. Palm has not provided further information on the specifics of the battery.
- Does the Palm Pre support memory expansion cards?
The Palm Pre has 8GB of internal memory and does not support memory expansion cards ie. microSD.
- Will AT&T carry the Palm Pre?
Sprint is the exclusive US carrier of the Palm Pre. No official word from either company on the length of that exclusivity. Palm is expected to release webOS powered devices in addition to the Pre, so it's possible AT&T would be in line for that product. Most expect the Sprint exclusive will last at least through the end of 2009.
Palm has confirmed a GSM Palm Pre, but that will be compatible with European UTMS networks only.
- How much will Sprint voice and data plans cost for the Palm Pre?
Sprint announced the following plans would be available for the Pre.

- Does the Palm Pre come with a word processing application?
Palm did not show a word processing application at CES. They are marketing the Palm Pre as a "prosumer" phone and the final set of applications will likely change when it goes into production.
- Where can I find a review of the Palm Pre?
Palm showcased the Pre at CES, but for the most part did not allow members of the media to even handle the Pre. There are a number of videos that showcase the features of the Pre, but no actual reviews.
- Does the Palm Pre support MSN?
Palm introduced a host of developers at CES who would be developing applications for the Pre, but Microsoft was not one of those developers. Palm Pre owners will have access to MSN using the web browser on the Pre. Expect third party webOS developers to release a MSN Messenger compatible instant messaging app. Integrated chat applications are very common and will probably be available shortly after launch.
- Will Alltel carry the Palm Pre?
Sprint Wireless has an exclusive in the US market. It's unclear when that exclusivity ends, but some speculate 2010. Palm has a relationship with Alltel, recently announcing the Treo Pro on Alltel, so an Alltel Palm Pre next year is possible. Much of this is dependent on the length of Sprint's exclusive.
- What is the price of the Palm Pre?
Palm and Sprint have not released any details on the price of the Palm Pre. The Palm Pre will likely be heavily subsidized, offering customers significant value over the MSRP.
- Will Verizon carry the Palm Pre?
Sprint has an exclusive to sell the Palm Pre, but it's certainly plausible that Verizon will carry the Palm Pre when that exclusivity deal ends.

The Palm Pre was announced at CES 2009. At that time, the Palm Pre release date was set for the first half of 2009. We fully expect Palm will release the Pre by June 30th, 2009.
